That has left me considering an E or M class. I am not sure if there are any drawbacks in choosing the M, have any E owners experience with comparisons, the gas or slightly higher cost of the M is not a factor for me in this decision.
Both shall be year 2012 CPO vehicles.
Thank you
Depends on if you need a big SUV.

This isn't really about needs, this is a car at a winter home. I shall sometimes carry four passengers and shall on occasion have luggage that may benefit from the extra space.
I just like the look of the M and the spaciousness and airiness of the interior. Is the 12 M reliable like the 12E?

MY12 first year of new body for M. Better ask on the M forum, but if it is under warranty and you are buying CPO you should be solid. good luck

The point that I was trying to make is that the indicator light for *** is hidden from the driver's view. So when one comes to a stop, if you forgot to disengage the ***, you could be in for unpleasant surprise when the engine conks out at just the wrong time.

Fortunately, Mercedes puts the *** front and centre in the 2014 E Class dash, where the indicator LED can easily be seen at all times.

I noted your point and my response was related to the actual effect the start/stop causes - I don't like it but did find it pretty instantaneous unlike you related.

Hardly Shaq's quote. My dad used to say that long before Shaq was ever alive and unfortunately (or fortunately as the case may be) it stuck and can't seem to see BMW's any other way.

E 350
How does a used 5 series BMW or an Audi A6 fare in terms of price and reliability compared with E class. They all seem to be selling at similar price range when new.

There is nothing as easy as checking if the stop start is engaged or not.... Just release the brake pedal a tad and you should know.

Depends on the engine in the BMW and the year of the Audi. The latest version of the A6 has had very good reliability and the S6 was the most reliable car I've ever owned.

That's funny, since my father always pined for Benz and regarded them as the best (cachet), I feel that way too and can't get it out of my head

Suggest you try driving a F30 and you will understand the problem. The telltale LED is hidden from the driver's viewpoint !!!

No, pamiboy is correct. If you let off the brake and put your foot on the gas and nothing happens, then stop/start was on. If it drives right off and you avoid that 18 wheeler carrying high explosives that is bearing down on you, the start/stop was deactivated.

Hahaha.... You guys are funny. Curiously I had driven the 2014 BMW 5 series while searching for a car and found the auto start stop annoying during test drive. I didn't know anything about the LED/ turn off switch at that time. But on the E 350 the system doesn't bother me, don't know why.
