Are the OEM wheels on the W212s forged or cast? Just wondering as I've read a lot about damaged wheels. If cast, are any OEM Mercedes wheels forged?

Most are cast with the exception of the E63 optional wheels.

 

I wish they were forged but forged wheels costs too much money. As the previous poster said on the E-class only the E63 optional wheels are forged.

 

I thought most builds had the choice

 

Does anyone know what flow formed wheels are? If so, do they provide any real benefit over traditional cast wheels?

Well they are supposed to be lighter and stronger. I think it a good compromise between forged and cast.

They do. When I built mine I could of put the authentic forged AMG 19's on my car for a whopping 10k. I thought I would get a forged rim that looks much better for about half that.

 

I seen way too many forged name brands bent and damaged, if you hit a something hard enough, it will bend, especially with low profile tires.

You have to look at the strength between the two types. If a forged will bend a cast will bend much sooner. But if you buy an aftermarket rim, I suggest a 3 piece rim. This mean there are seperate inner and outer barrels and a 3rd center hub piece. The center hub of the rim is most of the cost of these rims so when you damage a rim, it's usually the barrels, inner outer or both and rarely the center hub. You have the option to replace these at a fraction of the cost of the entire rim. You just replace the damaged parts. Example: My rims retail at 1500 a rim but I can replace the outer barrel for 200. Anyway something to think about.
