Thank you. Based on the install I'd say it's plausible that the fan simply fell out and onto the floor. The fans are just glued into place in the seat foam and if broken loose, I suppose it'd eventually find its way out of the metal seat frame and onto the floor. All you'd need is just enough time and movement and gravity will take care of the rest.
Interesting on the W212 they cheaped out and only provide two butt fans vs. three on my older R-Class.

Had exactly the same 'fan on the floor' discovery with my '12 E550C. went to clean the mats on the weekend and on driver side passenger floor a small fan just like the pictures at the beginning of this thread.
Seeing the dealer in two weeks for routine maintenance - we'll see what they say

Seat Cooling fan (replaced under warranty)
belarus27
Dealer replaced seat cooling fan under warranty - said they had never seen or heard of this and found it quite puzzling the fan fell on the floor as they said it is enclosed in the seat.
Seemed like it was a big job for them - car was in for almost 2 days - see the warranty invoice - quite a job to take the seat out and then take it apart.

Was in a friend's Lexus RX the other day and I kept checking to see if the seat cooler fan was really on - couldn't even feel it.

No doubt, belarus27. I was really looking forward to bragging about my vented seats, but alas they only seem to take the edge off in moderately warm temps (and that's being generous)... and they're loud at full-tilt without much to show for it. At least the RX seats aren't noisy.

I wanted to get it fixed while still under warranty as I suspected it would be a costly job to get at things in there. Now that it's fixed, fans seem much louder than the passenger seat fans. (radio and everything off) I wonder now if one of the drivers seat fans never did work from the start.
As far as efficiency - I only notice any effect on hot summer days when the AC is pumping cold air - the fans seem to be forcing the cooled air through the seats. Otherwise it's a circulation effect and not a cooling effect.

Haven't used my ventilated seats much, but the other night I heard a helicopter overhead driving down my street - I joked with my wife as we were pulling in our driveway that the police must know we are home from vacation. I realized as I leaned forward and back again that the helicopter I heard wasn't really overhead . . . it was the seats!!!
