2012 E350 USB port questions
Hi All,
My wife just got a 2012 E350 and I have a couple of questions regarding the USB in the center console.
I've read that it will not charge her Windows Phone but when you put one of those charge only (no data) cables in there, it does in fact charge. That said, after reading the manual I'm totally confused by it's intended function.
Was this designed only to take a memory stick for images/music or was it designed to accept a phone and be able to play music off that? Then there is the iPod connector. Can that be changed out for a usb connector instead and is that able to connect and play music, etc? Also, I'm wondering if that will also charge as well as share data/music, etc?
I did search but I didn't find too much specifically on these questions.
TIA

The USB port can be used to charge a phone, BUT it puts out very little current (300 ma) so it most likely is only enough to charge if the phone is off. If you are using your phone for anything, then the current from the usb port is not enough to charge it.
This is the case with my Galaxy S3/S4/S5 and my wife's IPhone 4/5. If we power the phone off, it will charge (very slowly) if we leave the phone on but in standby, it will maintain power most of the time. If we are using the phone for anything, then the battery continues to drain, but at a slower pace.

I use it on occasion to charge my phone. It charges at 500ma. Some phones require a 1.0 or 2.0A charger. It will charge but perhaps not as fast as you need it to. For my purposes it works great as my phone is rarely that low.
