Aftermarket Parking Assist

Hello,

So I just got a new E350 and it does not have the parking assist package that I wanted. The dealership could not even locate one with it in the luxury style. Anyway is it possible for this package to be installed by the dealer or by an MB Shop? Would Mercedes stand behind the work?

Thanks.

Send Steve a message on http://www.mbenznl.nl he's a magician with these sorts of things. Dealer will be useless in helping you out here.

You should have kept looking for one with it, then. This will be an impossible task to put the OEM Parktronic system in there.

Several dealers searched the whole country and could not find one with it, apparently it is rather uncommon on the sedans, at least with the other options I want. I don't need the fancy surround cameras and all that. I just want the sensors that beep when I am getting close to things. Maybe I am oversimplifying it, but wouldn't the bumper on the car come off and they would put in a bumper with the sensors? The only hard part seems to be the wiring. Are the cars pre-wired for that or would a line have to be run to wherever all this stuff plugs in?

Are you looking for parking assist or just the proximity sensors in the bumpers? There are lots of aftermarket solutions for the sensors but even that retrofit with OE equipment would be prohibitive unless you are prepared to spend upwards of $5-$7k. An aftermarket solution for front and back will cost under $1k. The cars are not prewired and I suspect the front bumpers themselves (under the bumper cover) are different.

Did you bother to click on the link in post #4? Yes, you are over simplifying it. Remember on the cheap aftermarket option, you get what you pay for.

I think the cameras are a necessary component to the Parktronic. In fact you can't have Parktronic unless you have the Premium 1 package that includes the rear camera. And I believe the other cameras are standard features that are necessary for other standard safety features. I can't say this is all fact, I'm basing it on the sales literature and configuration requirements.

In California Parktronic seems widely available and got it on my car even though it wasn't an important feature to me.

I assume that you were referring to my post. Of course I looked at the link and it is clear that an OE retrofit is insanely expensive.

There are several excellent aftermarket solutions for the proximity sensors (including one made by Bosch which I suspect is the OEM for MB sensors) but they won't be as tightly integrated. The better ones are sound only and there is no visible change to anything in the cabin and the sensors (once painted) look OE.

More specifically here's a W212 E that has had parktronic retrofitted, even converted it from Dutch to English for you: https://translate.googleusercontent....0d5cC2kaO-j0PQ
