Rear main seal leak in 2011 CPO E350 4MATIC
I purchased a CPO 2011 E350 4MATIC two weeks ago in VA. Since I live in MD, I had to take the car in for MD inspection. The car passed inspection last Thursday, but the local shop that did the inspection found a rear main seal leak. I'm not sure how severe it is. After the inspection, I noticed some small oil spots where I park.
The good news is the repair is covered under warranty and the nearest MB dealership is going to repair it tomorrow. Shouldn't the MB dealership where I purchased the car have detected this when inspecting the car to "certify" it for CPO resale? I find it a little disturbing that it wasn't detected. I guess it's possible it started as a small leak that went undetected and then got worse over the past few weeks, but I think that is unlikely.
