2010 E350 Sedan - Gear Shift Will Not Park
Hello everyone, I am new to the site and just purchased my first MB a few months back. 2010 E350 Sedan, Silver with Light Grey Interior. Only around 33k miles on her and overall loving the car so far.
I am having an issue that appears to be rare as the service advisers that I have spoke with said they have not come across it.
When I try to shift into Park, the gear shift button does nothing. At first it was once a week, now it is a daily problem. I have to turn the car off, start it back up and then shift into park.
Has anyone else come across this issue? I am trying to determine the path of least resistance in having it fixed. I have an extended warranty if it's anything big like a transmission problem but I suspect it is computer based as the car drives and shifts very smooth.
Any advice you have is greatly appreciated!

So, it sounds like if it stays in drive when you turn it off, it is also in drive sometimes when you start it? That is very dangerous and I would not drive it until fixed. I am not aware of any other cars with this issue. Get in in ASAP.

I called one local MB dealer today and 2 other places that specialize in MB service and no one has come across this issue.
Looks like the MB service center is in my immediate future.

Besides that you should be able to hear a grinding noise when your car shifts into P .
May be redundant question but I feel like I have to ask it . Have you pushed the button at the edge of gear selector stalk when your car is in D or N ?
I always press the button and stop the engine . When I open the driver's door and the car is in D with my foot on the brake pedal it engages in P as well . I believe earlier W212s didn't come with this feature .
However, it should be updated via a software

At that point I keep the brake applied and turn the car off and back on. Only then will the P button work.
And then when it shifts into park, yes I do get the usual grinding sound.
I am going to see if MB can update my software as well to alleviate the Bluetooth audio streaming issue. Perhaps that update will include the auto shift feature when the driver door is opened.

My 2010 E350 functions normally. I push the button in and it goes into park. P in display. If I don't and I turn engine off, it goes into neutral. If I open the driver's door, it goes into park automatically.
Take it to dealer; there is something wrong.
