Trading in a 12' E350BTC CPO - does the dealer need to pay to re-CPO

I'm soon to trade-in a E350BTC that is a CPO through 6-2017. Since the dealer I purchased it from already paid to make it a CPO, does the dealer I'm trading it in have to pay the full CPO price to MB to recertify and resell?

I'm assuming the dealer will lowball the trade and tell me they have to pay to re-certify to sell as CPO. Does anyone know if they need to pay MB to re-CPO a car?

Or are they just going to check the wear items wash and put it on the lot and pocket the CPO fee?

AFAIK once a CPO, always a CPO. However, the terms of CPO have changed recently, when I bought my CPO in 2012 it was until 5 years after original in service date or 100K miles total, as of 1/15/14 it's 5 years and unlimited mileage.

So MAYBE they have to pay to re-CPO if yours was bought CPO before January 2014, and of course, they have to pay to fix anything that's more than 50% worn, such as tires, brakes, etc...

Hopefully someone else will chime in.

The dealer will have to re-CPO, no doubt about that. CPO will transfer from owner to owner in a private party sale, but does not transfer from owner to dealer.

Interesting... Just picked up mine CPO From Calabasas, and from what Ive read; The factory warranty does not change. 4 yr/50,000. From then on out, the one year unlim cpo warranty kicks in, and then extended warranty.

If i am correct, at 28k (02/12 orig lease date, 10/14 purchase date), i have 17 months to hit my 4yr/50k, so as long as im under 50,000 by 1yr5mths, the next year CPO unlim warranty begins, and then i bought a 1 yr extended warranty unlim miles, covers all, and that would total 3 1/2 years if i dont go overboard the first stretch.

I wonder if whether or not knowing the answer to that question will help when you go in to make a deal. One thing for sure is you will have to work for it. The dealer will need to make some minimum amount on your present car and your next one. It is so hard to know what that amount is. It seems that every dealer uses the tactic of asking you what do you want (Your answer to that question will frame up the whole deal so be ready) . Reminds me of the question job interviewers were posing a few years ago --- where do you see yourself five years from now.

Good luck finding the right car for you. all the best
