MB news in Jan. Motor Trend
Jan. issue of Motor Trend has some interesting MB coverage. Apparently MB is going to be fielding some totaly new models for more "brand" expansion. But, nothing smaller than CLA or GLA? 75% of CLA purchasers are first timers for MB, but what are they coming from? How will they react to the "sticker shock" of MB maintenance?
MB "C" Class made final 10 for Car of the Year, but got beat out by the VW Golf-and probably not close anyway based on write-up.
Seems that the 3 German Luxury makes, MB, BMW & Audi, all have substantial add on costs for features that come standard on Honda, Hyundai, Kia, VW and many other makes.
Also, there is an interview with one of the Daimler "doctors" re: autonomous driving. Very optimistic, but I think the American society's penchant for litigation is a factor to which they are not paying enough attention. Current controversy over airbags, ignition switches, etc. should be of great concern. They need to watch daytime TV in America for all the legal representation ads for suing somebody over something.
If Daimler/MB cannot produce a COMAND system that functions well, how can they produce an autonomous vehicle that will never fail? Look at all the components that fail now after over 100 years of development.
Not to mention, the automous car that is 10-15 years old at the time of an accident. Look at some of the mandatory recalls and lawsuits today and how old the vehicles are. "Autonomous" will remove the driver from any responsibility - in a court room.
Because it is autonomous, will manufacturer be held responsible as long as car is on the road? Regardless of what DOT/NHTSA/ et. al say, the courts and juries will surely weigh in at some point.

No, I as Germancar1, wonder what your point is after reading that snippet.
Being Second place is the major news from the article as posted, but the autonomous driving end just threw me off.
Every time i read one of these articles putting cheaper designed cars on a pedastal i remember my acura tsx.... its truly a grand canyon gap of heart put in european engineering of all sorts to almost any other...

Don't know what one poster said because I am happily using the Ignore function. My original post was to let members know about the information in MT.
