I'm very displeased with the Mb Tex in my 2012 E class. I have the same problem as the OP, and others in this thread and other threads. A nasty tear right along the seam in the seat middle.
I bought the car with a CPO Extended Warranty which was transfered to me. I took the car to my local dealer to look at it and the service guy me it definitely would NOT be covered under my warranty and quoted me several hundred dollars for the repair to which I declined. He told me the extended warranty only covers "major issues".
Seems like a load of s**t. I have read now at least 3 or 4 others that have had this replaced under the same warranty. What should I do here?
1. Contact MBUSA and ask for a supervisor, although I think they actually call them something else.
2. If not satisfied, call MBUSA in Atlanta GA. Personally I prefer to write a letter to the CEO. Takes 3 days longer, but gets much quicker results.

Thanks for the suggestion El Cid. I will definitely be doing this. Between when I talked to the dealer and now I think my warranty may have just expired, but either way I should make a stink about it.
Now, MB stopped supplying just the bottom part of the seat cushion. Not you have to replace BOTH the bottom and the back.
At a very "reasonable" price of.............
..............WAIT FOR IT
CAD$2,700 + Tax + Labor.
WTF, MB????????
For less than that you can go to an upholstery shop and have actual leather seat covers installed. I would definitely do that instead.
My Driver's seat ripped open last week. I bought the car back in Oct.2014 and I am glad I bought the extended CPO Warranty! The Service Man first said, "I'll have to check to see if they will cover it". I said, "they should, a car with less than 48,000 miles and a Warranty", "I never had any of my seats rip open in the seams on any cars I have ever owned"! He called back next day to tell me they will cover it and a new seat cover is on order. I take it in this week for a replacement! MB should have a recall on all these MB-Tex Seats to check for bad seams. But, don't beat your head against a wall..............
if they don't try and wiggle out of it!
I have the same car a 2010 E with 96k miles with the same issues regarding the front seats tearing that my brother just gifted to my father.. any suggestions on the best and most economical fix for these tears given the car is out of warranty? Perhaps seat covers is the better option at this point?
ripped MBTex on E-Class with 37,000 miles, always kept in Garage.
I have a Model E from 2008 with only 37,000 miles. The MBTex ripped recently and I was just told I have to spend ~$900 for the repair. (Extended) Warranty has expired. Maybe it was a problem that I have driven so few miles. It would probably have ripped under warranty if (my wife) had driven more miles.
Conclusion: Don't believe Mercedes salespeople that MBTex is just as good and probably more durable than leather.
Our car has been in the garage most of the time, never parked in the sun.

Many thanks for any feedback
Technically, they are seat covers. Leather is seat covers. There used to be auto upholstery shops around, so you might try that for repair or new matching seat covers.

I have had cars with leather seats that split, discolored, shredded in only two years with no warranty coverage - normal wear and tear.
The seats are 8 years old and you must have parked in the sun sometime. How hot does your garage get?
Did you ever treat them or care for them?
From my experience MBTex is more durable and just as good as leather. Not as soft.
^^^ perhaps, but where are the threads discussing ripped leather? I can wait.....Sold a 99 SLK with leather 2 years ago...Leather was near perfect...sold my 07 CLK this summer, leather was perfect...2 year old leather "shredded" ? do tell....and 8 year old MB with 37k miles should not have split seats shown in those pictures....period....how hot is your garage? You're killing me...
There was an earlier post on the seats ripping. There has be a re-call of sorts from Mercedes-Benz. The dealers are supposed to order in the New covers for your seats and install. The dealers are balking some because Mercedes-Benz only gives them a flat rate for doing the labor! My Dealer did mine for free as a Comp sort of thing!

I have the exact same problem as yours, I even have the same color leather as yours. Mine should be covered ('14 & Under 40,000 miles) via original warranty according to these posts, taking it in tomorrow for check engine light and will point this out. Will update what they say.

The poster commented re: never being in sun (heat), so that raises a question of where it is parked. Guess cold could also affect it.
If your leather didn't have a problem, congratulations.
And 8 years old is a consideration. Mileage alone does not affect cars.
Motivology said he has same problem in his "leather" seats.
Regardless, I would recommend the poster Google the CEO for MBUSA and his mailing address and send him a letter.
Obviously further commentary here is not going to help him.
I noticed recently on my w211 the bottom side bolster on the drivers side has a few cracks. The large center is all leather. Wonder why they didn't do the entire surface of seat in leather? Also I'm assuming that the side vinyl is MB tex?
Yes, my 2012 C300 4Matic Sport has the exact separation along the seam in the driver's seat. If repairable, $125, if replacement required $225. If I have the entire car's panels (front and rear seats) replaced with actual leather, only $1200. MB Tex is a poor material with an unusual smell. Full leather next time.

Update. Took it in over the weekend, everything was covered under warranty including labor and seat was fixed. Picked it up today and it looks great, no problems.

I agree! I was worried because of the reviews online at both major Benz dealers in town were not so great on the Service Dept. I'm glad to say I didn't have any trouble getting it fixed under warranty.
My 21 year old S class with 90k interior is in perfect condition. People that made cars back then should be proud of there work.
people that make them now should be ashamed of themselfs.
