Arrow Drab to Fab - another steering wheel upgrade thread.....

Plug and play in under an hour. Feels like driving a new car again.

Love the thick & meaty size of the wheel - all for just under $850. Thanks ebay!

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Wait till you park the car under FL's summer sun for even an hour - it does really force one to use proper 3&9 o'clock hands on steering wheel position.

I did it myself. Really easy. Took about 25 minutes to remove the wheel, and 10 min. to install the new one.

It was a packaged deal for both wheel & airbag. Got the old set up on ebay for sale.

eBay item number:171684482064

You can cover the top of the wheel with a towel or with a small piece of insulated tube to cut down the heat. It looks like you got an sl steering wheel, nice. For a litle more, you could have gotten the newer style wheel that all the manufacturers are moving to.

Looks amazing! I lived in GA with a Lexus with wood. No worries at all. A steering wheel is hot as hell regardless of the material after sitting in the sun.

As far as the buttons and functionality, was that all plug and play as well?

And what exactly is your point?

The OP goes from the full black leather to a wooden one with leather only at 3 and 9 o'clock positions. The new wheel cannot possibly be hotter than the previous one in any way.

When turning the wheel to make a left or right turn, or when manuvering at slow speed, the top wood portion gets suprisingly hot. Covering it with a towel when it is parked helps keep it much cooler on a hot day. It also helps prevent the wooden wheel from developing cracks overtime.

Both my W211s, the W212 and the old girl, the R170 all have wood grain wheels and I have never had and issue with the wheel getting too hot to handle including top down days in the Slick. A bit warm at the odd occasion but never that hot.
Looks good.
