Wagon pricing

$40k+ for 2012 E350 wagons makes me scratch my head. Are those prices realistic? Sedans seem to be all over the place for $25k. Is supply/demand that bad for wagons?

I live on Vancouver Island and to my knowledge there are 4 here. Cannot speak to Vancouver but I do know there are not that many when compared to sedans.
Two weeks ago, as my car came out of warranty at 4yr with 55000km on the odometer my dealer offered me $30000 CDN so they would list it at $40000-42000 and take $38000. Autotrader up here is in that ballpark as well
Given your cars sell for less in your currency I am thinking $41000 could be a tad rich. My car listed at $72000 CDN with Premium package which gives me Lane Assist, back up camera, driver assist, I ordered Wood wheel and a few other goodies.
Check and see what the differentials in list prices were between a similarly equipped sedan and the wagon and then compare used on that basis. My bet is the list price differentials will not support a $15000 differential on a 3 yr old wagon vs sedans.

Thanks for sharing! That's the thing, there are 802 sedans listed on cars.com (year 2012), between $24k and $41k. There are only 11 wagons for the same year listed between $40k and $51k. Sounds like a supply/demand issue. Those cars were barely $60k new. I haven't been following the market, so I was trying to figure out if this is a temporary situation or wagons really command such a premium. Time will tell, I guess.

You answered your own question. It is a supply and demand issue. Wagons are a very desirable alternative to an SUV if you want hauling capability and car like like comfort and performance. If my Volvo wagon ever decides to go, it will be an MB wagon and I will pay the premium over a sedan.

in the market for a wagon

I am in the market for a wagon as well, and currently looking at 2012 and 2013. the price range is between 45 to 57k CAD. are these prices realistic or is just Vancouver that is that expensive?

If you guys want to see the prices go to MB USA website and search for CPO wagons there are 19 available at this moment.

There are two on Autotrader.ca at $40000 and $44000 that are low mileage.
One is a 2011 and the other either a 2011 or 2012. The add says both. One is in Vancouver and the other in Qualicum up island about an hour north of me.
They are advertising them as AMGs which I do not believe is the case.
2011 was the first year for the W212 wagon in Canada (sedans in 2010)
There was no E63 wagon offered in 2011. There was in the sedans.
Looking at both listings there is nothing different from my car except the one in Vancouver which has a roof rack and leather. I have Artico for personal reasons.
If they were AMG cars they would either have a badge saying so or a bare spot on the rear door.
All references in my manual are to the E63 sedan which points out another clue as to why these are not AMGs. If they are AMGs they would have the 156 engines and not the 272 engine again according to my manual.
In context, my dealer offered me $30000 for my 2011 with 55000km on it 4 weeks ago.
They will CPO in at a cost to them of maybe $2000 and put it out there for $39000-41000 and take $38000.
That is all I can offer.

Zenocchio,

Check this out. Just be aware it is not an AMG. They are playing of the 772 code on the build sheet:

A Spoiler and side skirts in the AMG style does not make it an AMG. If it is an E63 then it is an AMG. The price is also a clue it is not an E63.

thanks for the heads up,
I think i will check it out, it looks like it is about $12k less than the one that I tested yesterday.

is $12k more reasonable for a car that is a year younger (2012) has less than half the mileage (19000km vs 44000), fewer options (i.e. distronic plus) and is not CPO or has warranty.

This would be my first MB, so I am absolutely ignorant on the matter.

In our market I think it's a tad high. Around $38000-39000 would be great but not over $40000 unless you plant to keep it. They ain't the dealer so they should do better or try for an extended warranty in the package.
