Command / Navigation Software Update
During my first A Service today, I asked the service advisor to perform a Command update (software) if one was available. They found an update to be available and subsequently performed the software update. However, I don't see any changes from a end user perspective. I was hoping at a minimum it would add the guide lines for the backup camera (it did not). Has anyone noticed any changes to the Command after a software update? If so, what specifically?
In addition, I asked about navigation updates and the service advisor stated that it is completely independent from the Command update. Apparently, it is a disk that has to be purchased for around $300 (didnt know the exact price). Does anyone know how to have the dealer install the latest maps without charge? Is it even worth it?
BTW, I have a 2013 E350 (wagon).

How often do you need to find a location that is not on the map? Do you have a cell phone? Internet maps are likely to be more accurate.

Good points. After further thinking, I'd probably just have
The Drive Kit Plus Kit installed once the built-in maps are outdated. I have the DKP already from when I purchased the car but never had it installed.

I had the map update done and it is a two disc set. Update was done three years after car purchased. Not worth paying for. May change a few of the graphics and some POI's and some other things. But for me, I noticed zero changes in driving instructions, roads or POI's that I have used. Same 10 year old restaurants still not listed; same incorrect driving instructions still there; etc.
