Can keyless feature be added?
I have a 2011 E350 Blutec and it's everything that we wanted, except that it doesn't have the keyless ignition. I'm planning on keeping the car for another two years before trading it in and wonder just how difficult it would be to add the keyless feature. Has anyone done anything like this?

Oh well, it was worth checking anyway. I'll just live with the car the way it is for another year or so until I'm ready to trade it in. Thanks for the response.

Funny, I have it and don't use it, popped the start button out before I left the dealership. Wife's Infiniti has it but no removable button.

same here. Use it to lock and unlock only. I hate the start/stop button. It's in my center console where it will stay.

We had keyless on our 2005 CLK 500 and loved it. The only problem was my wife once left her keys on top of the car when she was loading groceries, then drove off. About 5 miles down the road the dash let her knew that her key was not in range, so she stopped the car and shut off the engine. Naturally the car wouldn't start again and her keys were on the side of the road 4 miles back. I was out of town so she had to call a friend to pick her up and back track. Luckily she found the keys and there were no further problems.

I did not think that I would like (being old school) and would never have paid extra for it on a new car, but I do really like it. On the other side I am not very fond of the 18 inch rims which make the ride harsher that the 17's on my W211.

Or did she first get in the car with the keys, then start the car, then get out of the car and place the keys on top of the car, then load the groceries and then get in the car with the keys still on top of the car and drive away?

Interesting that you just answered your own question!
My iPhone and key never got along in my MB, so I ditched the button. My Infiniti was never an issue.
If someone can do that window crank conversion for me I will pay good money.

So, how did you wife start the car with the keys on top of the car?
Or did she first get in the car with the keys, then start the car, then get out of the car and place the keys on top of the car, then load the groceries and then get in the car with the keys still on top of the car and drive away?

With keyless she didn't need the key to start the car, just the button on top of the shifter. So her keys were still on top of the car when she got in and started it. She thinks they stayed on top of the car for about a mile, then she made a turn and they slid off. What I found interesting was that she drove another 3 or 4 miles before the dash indicated that the key was no present, and the car was still running. It's when she shut it off that it wouldn't start again.

Normally the engine would not start if the key is outside the car. If only one door sensor is recognizing the key the engine would not start. The sensors in the dash and most of the doors recognize the key if it is within three feet (I think) distance which usually happens only if you are inside the car.
But...the engineers did not count on someone placing the key on top of the car. It turns out that the key would be within the sensing range of all sensors and the car thinks the key is inside and started .
In skromfols's case most likely the car chimed the absence of key as soon as it fell off but the driver wasn't paying attention to it until few miles passed .

im pretty sure every option can be retro fitted, however, the question is , is it worth the money. Keyless go has got to be one of the far more exercise retro fits as it consist of multiple harnesses and components along with additional software and SCN coding. My guess- 3-4 grand to have a dealer install it.
