Thanks! The wheels completely rekindled my love for the Bluetec. I've always thought its one of the best looking cars on the road. Properly proportioned, taught, chiseled, conservative and aggressive all at once!
The 997 is a beast. Has 900hp and a long list of tasteful mods ;-)
Thanks folks. For you ultra conservative types that like pillows for tires and a thimble size wheel I get it ;-)
I originally was going to do 19's. But they are harder to come by. Then I remembered how my XKR CAME with 20's. And do many Jag sedans including the XF. And I recalled how the ride was not harsh. Then I remembered that I have run flats and theorized a 17" runflat would feel about like a 19 or 20 regular tire.
And... I was right! The ride is the same or smoother than the 17's.
Regarding the bling - I will assume you are still beating the size dead horse. Because the rims are silver painted with machined accents. Its less blingy than the bloody chrome accents on the car itself. Which lets not kid ourselves its a Benz - they are already blingy. 1) Chrome strip on bottom of car 2) elevated chrome Tri-Star badge 3) chrome brightwork around windows 4) huge chrome strip across the trunk 5) chrome on the grill. The W212 isn't exactly a paragon of anti-bling.
If I were blinging I would have gone chrome or at least a polished lip multi-piece wheel. This wheel is quite conservative in the flesh. Looks completely factory for a 2015 luxury car as most now come with 20. And rides even better than our beloved W212 Bluetec comes from the factory.
blingy? this? cant see any bling. all I see is a nice clean classy ride. always said that deep dish or step lip looks better on the 212 but the modest concave on your car looks awesome! great job on the wheel choice mate!
NickTH, why "different strokes for different folks" as they say ;-). That is a clean wheel.
However, ironically I think those don't have enough metal. They look like a "lightweight" sort of wheel for a sports car. Also they show lots of brake - on a sedan?
The mental pic of a luxury sedan isn't hauling at 180mph down a straight and then having to brake - hence the need for showing off big caliper prowess. To me a luxury car should look "substantive", solid, safe aesthetic. Not so much a minimalist open design with very little solid surface.
So even though those come as a stock wheel I've never liked them. But this is the fun of boards like these. We get to know the mind of so many others!
Love sport too. I've just learned after trying to make my sedans more sporty that I'm too - dare I say purist. I wanted my toys to be toys and my sedans to be more stately and luxurious. And leave the "sport" to this thing ;-)
Thanks guys. Yes they make 19 but they are more scarce. I almost went with the bronze but decided to keep it clean and less "modded" looking. I also noticed the silver spokes look sharper due to the machined face with silver. The bronze is a more blunted look on the spokes.
bronze looks good but too sporty I reckon. just depends on how you want your car to look like. yours is classy and sporty at the same time. just how it should be imo.
is your car lowered in any way?
