Do you guys know what the black plastic piece underneath my bumper is called? It's the piece that covers the dual exhausts and runs the width of the car. Is it a rear diffuser? Anyone know the part # for my 2010 E550? Mine is a bit scratched up by the previous owner and I'm looking at replacing it. How easy is it to replace? Do I have to pull the rear bumper off or can I just go under the car and there are some clips or something?

Didn't mean to "rag". I had 2 different "opinions" from 2 different Mercedes dealers after my online research. I thought one of you guys would have the experience to clear it up. I'm new to Benz.

That's what I thought..

 

The part diagram describes it as a "lower cover", so as not to confuse you guys any more than is necessary I referred to it by that specific name. In this application it is more of a cover than anything else. Diffusers usually displace air and and are made of exotic carbon Fiber bits and such, which this "cover" is clearly not. It is a piece of cheap molded plastic.

Please don't thank me for helping you understand the difference between a cheap plastic lower bumper cover and a diffuser.

 

The cheap cover is going for $318 OEM (Dealer). Other sources have it at 250ish. Not so cheap. I'll do further research on pricing.

 

yes, a lot of money for molded cheezy plastic. However, the one redeeming thing is you will not have to paint it. So, you got that going for you.
