Removing "wings and badge" from grill?

Just picked up a 2016 E350 and the badge on the grill looks like it should be hanging from a rappers necklace. It needs to go.

Has anyone removed it and the "wings" to leave just a black mesh grill that matches the factory plastic grill material? I'm surprised nobody offers a replacement blank grill...

This is what I'm trying to achieve:

I'm going for something similar on my pre facelift w212. What is commonly done here is either plastidipping the center, vinyl wrapping it, or having it painted. Option 2 could be sourcing a carbon fiber one and painting it (eliminate the badge) not as cost effective but viable...

The badge is what bothers me on mine. I'm getting rid of the star hood ornament, but feel the redundancy of two similar size badges so close is less than ideal.

Good luck!

I have a '14 and have been looking for about a month on how to remove the bumper in order to remove the grill. There are a couple people on here that have successfully removed theirs but there arent any diagrams or videos showing how it all comes apart. Im not feeling that adventurous to just dive in... Back to your issue- I am sure once you get the grill out of the car, you can find a good solution to the wings and emblem. I personally think its too much. The E63 version is much better.

My apologies for asking a "dumb" question, but what are the "wings" you guys are taking about?

One question/consideration, is the star on yours a distronic sensor? If so options will be more limited. I think a black vinyl wrap could be the ticket. Cost effective and easily reversible.

Non-distronic. If I can't find anything prefab, I may have to get creative and find a larger piece of similar grill mesh material and fab my own grill. I'll keep this thread updated if I have to go that direction.

Those aren't wings, they're bars. Personally I don't like the big MB Star on the grilles and much prefer the Luxury grille without a star. I also like the stand up Star on the hood. It makes it an MB sedan and connects it to all the MB's back to the beginning. Just the way I feel.

It reminded me of the Southwest Airlines logo, hence the first thing that popped into my mind was "wings":

i call em "fins"

anyways, your idea of fabricating a plain mesh grille seems doable.
but how about trying to remove the star and fins from your oem grille, is that possible? from your 2nd photo it seems that its just attached to the mesh.
i personally love that star on the grille look but of course, your car, your preference.

goodluck and kepp us posted with any updates.

From what I can see, there is a pattern on the mesh where the wings aka bars aka fins connect. Might look goofy if left as is when the insert is removed. Sure wish someone would reply who knows how take the dang bumper off.

Just ordered an OEM grill from eBay. Also have some black ABS grill mesh on the way that's very similar to the OEM pattern. I only have about $100 into this so far, so we'll see how it turns out.

"Wings" in British autospeak are the fenders. By the way, are you trying to hide the car's identity?

I'm sure there are some blacked out aftermarket out there. IMO on the 2014+ the single fin looks better than 2+, especially if it is blacked out a bit . . . or all the way.

My C has a single fin that is only chrome on the very front of the fin the rest is black (although it's hard to see from this pic) it also has a blacked out surround. Star is distronic.

I agree the single looks way better. I'm gonna wait until the OP does his before I pull the trigger.

I would love to have a single bar AMG grille in my car - just too much work to install it.
