Burned-in headlight "etching"? Does anyone else have this?

These are my photos and yes the v haze in my headlights are causing the shadowing. Look the same with factory bulbs and osram cbi's. They actually look worse now since the "V" got more opaque. To add to it, my projector bowls are burnt and instead of white light and uniform beam pattern, I get yellow light with some green flares and crap beam. Have gone to dealership twice and called MB USA twice and they won't do anything since I'm out of warranty. It's obviously a design flaw... too small housing and too much heat generates. They have had at least 2 new revisions to the 2010 headlamps on my car... even adding vents. We need to start a petition or something.
Just wanted to update everyone on the lighting issue. After months of going back and forth with dealerships and MBUSA they denied assistance with the headlights since the car is out of warranty and it is an issue that is rare and never came up before. Basically lying to me. I have since bought OEM headlights and had them installed and coded at less than the cost the dealer wanted for 1 headlight. I used the same bulbs from my old headlights (osram cbi) since they are better than the stock bulbs that come with the new lights. The results prove that the "V haze" does block light as it gets worse and ruins output. I get a smile on my face every time my lights come on.

I'm friends with a tech at the MB dealer near downtown Houston, TX & he's aware of the TSB for this. @greekstyle - your dealer flat out lied to ya man. Glad you got it worked out though.
My wife's E63 has this issue, but since the lens isn't the focal point (the projector is) the light dissipation from the "Vs" is minimal & I'm just overlooking it since it's known to come back. The cause of it is the moving & self-leveling function of the headlights themselves.

My dealer did lie to me but so did MBUSA. I'm too busy to spend anymore time on the issue.... Im lucky I found an MB guy to service my car from here on out at 1/3 the cost.

Mercedes E350 CD Iridium silver convertible 2010
Have you guys noticed that the complaints come from the US only? Plus the convertibles and coupe also do not have any issues highlighted? Given so many parts cross the product lines I find this strange!!!! Not looking to suffer it myself though...lol

2013 model year may not get the v haze as bad or at all. You should have the newer revision headlamp which if I'm not mistake has some ventilation port to keep heat at minimal.

That's interesting I was wondering why I wasn't experiencing this same issue. For those that do have it I am with you I am a perfectionist and it would drive me crazy. Maybe there is a way to dissipate the heat to prevent it from happening again after you do a cleaning or polishing on them.

In the interest of keeping the "V in the headlight" conversations linked for future reference, here's another more recent one...

Got them V's on mine as well. Dealer and MB offered 30% off the repair. I'm disappointed in their quality. I've been a loyal MB with 4 cars bought. MB USA's response to my headlights is the reason why the E63 will be the last MB I'll own. Expect to see a low mileage E63 with headlight burn on classified soon.

They offered 30% discount for the repair. Why would they offer any discount if they had no fault in this? And you drive an E63!!!
I would also be very pissed off. "Best or nothing" is turning to be nothing.

Thanks for the heads up on those links guys!
I have an appointment with the dealer next week for other issues, I'll add this one to the list to ask about. My car is out of warranty but I have an aftermarket extended warranty (Fidelity). I'm not holding my breath, but its worth a try.

I just wanted to add that I also have the "headlight etching V" on my headlights (2012 E-class). I've had it for years, but didn't think much of it until I saw this thread. It seems to be a common problem. I just don't get how Mercedes didn't identify this problem during all of their testing prior to releasing the car.

The dealer I went to flat out said it's not covered under my warranty and didn't bother to call the warranty company. I've just learned to live with the etching ever since. Keep us updated on your efforts, and good luck!
