2103 E400 with 110 miles

A MB dealer in northeast has a 2013 E400 with 110 miles for sale at $42.5K;
Is this a good price? is this car considered a 2-3 years, old the instance it drives off the lot? is the warranty 4 years from 2013 or the year it will be sold (2015)?

you can get a little more high 30s low low 40s, I'd seriously consider it, it's a 3 year old car, I do acknowledge you pay a premium for a new car, but with 2017s dropping in less than a year, give them a fair offer and or prepare to walk away.

My breakdown

above average whole sale worth 31 grand add 3000 grand for less mileage (.25 * 12000) {i forgot what wholesalers price extra miles at I think I'm being generous at 25 cents a mile)

= 34000 grand wholesale value IMO

add 3 grand for remaining factory warranty value (being generous) compared to used version

= 37000 grand

The difference is what you want to pay for the premium of buying a "new car", which really isn't new.

you've got lots of room to play with, they aren't getting more than 34000 wholesale and its been sitting on their lot for 2 years

04/29/15 SF BAY Lease $31,500 18,482 Above BLACK 6H A Yes
05/07/15 RIVRSIDE Lease $31,000 23,073 Above PLR WHT 6H A Yes
05/21/15 RIVRSIDE Lease $30,500 13,815 Above IRI SIL 6H A Yes
06/04/15 RIVRSIDE Regular $29,000 23,170 Avg DIA WHT 6H A Yes
06/24/15 NJ Regular $27,500 16,936 Below GREY 6H A Yes
07/28/15 ORLANDO Lease $29,500 27,062 Avg IRI SIL 6H A Yes

10 grand hit driving it off the lot on a newish used car is too much in my opinion.

Also what happens to a battery when it has been barely used for 2 years will it affect its life?

The most important question is the warranty start date. If it hasn't been punched yet, work your way into the mid-30s with them and you've got a steal.

Battery would be under warranty for 4 years if the warranty hasn't started yet so really no worries.

if it is being sold as a new car, ie never titled, it doesn't matter how long it is sitting, the warranty will start when sold, at least that was the case when I sold Chevys for a short time during college

I've been in this conversation before with an MB dealer years ago and if I remember correctly the start date as far as MB is concerned has nothing to do with titling. I think it's closer to a date delivered to the dealer? I know that sounds wrong but I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with title date. The dealer could extend the date on their own dime though. I would assume you'd get extended warranty? My big question is.......why does a 2013 only have 110 miles on it? Any packages or extras? I'm all for buying depreciated cars with low miles.

agreed. But it wasn't a loaner or program car for someone working at the delearship.

not an MB factory website resource so don't hold me to it

When Does The Mercedes-Benz Factory Warranty Begin?
The Mercedes-Benz factory warranty start date begins on the date the vehicle is delivered to the 1st retail buyer or put into use, whichever occurs first. The factory warranty is provided by the Mercedes-Benz Manufacturer.

in anycase if the warranty is currently active and not brand new, please disregard any purchase price I suggested, it is worth a lot less than 42.5

Yes, factory warranty starts from the day the car is officially put in use either by the dealer for their own use or titled for the end user (the consumer). Has nothing to do with delivery to the dealer.

That makes more sense but the question remains.....how did they end up with a two year old new car with 110 miles on it? Auto dealers do not keep new cars on the lot for 2 years. Test drives after two years would put more miles on it than that. My cynical bone is tingling.

When I was selling Chevy's we had a couple of 2 year model year hold outs. Less popular models ie Chevy Venture.

I think its still sitting on the lot because it is a hybrid and not a gas version, could of been recentlyish received as part of a dealer trade they trade stock all the time.

Infiniti had the same problem with G37 sedans, when I was looking last year, too much in inventory, dealers held on to some for over a year and 2 years in a few cases.

Just got clarification from dealer, looks like it was titled in 2013, so the warranty runs until 2017 (4 yrs/50,000 miles)

OK, that makes more sense. With that low mileage several things could have happened. Bought, taken home, changed their mind and brought it back after dealer already submitted license paper work. Bought, couldn't pay for it or buyer died or sat in litigation for another reason. Who knows....but it's a good find. Extended warranty should be added to the price and I'd work on the price more because it can't be sold as a new car once titled.

I wouldn't pay much more than what comparable used versions are going for + (less miles)

It is a second owner car, they can spin it any way they want, its a used car, with a 2 year old battery, 2 year old tires, 2 years left on warranty.
