Perhaps the driver is a member of the forum here. I can not help but think his E63 helped him live. Wow. Thank God he walked away. Look at the wrecked car. If you just saw the car, you would assume the driver was at least seriously injured. News said driver walked away and was brought to a hospital. Hope all is OK with him.

Wow, it's just incredible that the driver was able to walk away from this horrific collision. Thank heavens he is suffered only cuts and a broken nose. I'll bet he will soon be buying another W212 !

I agree. I can't see anything special about how the roof sheared off that saved his life or that the Mercedes roof sheared off any better than the roof of another car would shear off.
I would just say he got lucky

Whoa, that's intense. I'm glad he's okay. (I wonder if the wheels are for sale. Too soon? haha)

Naturally, luck has a lot to do with everything in life. I firmly believe that it really matters what's behind you when encountering danger. It's not just about engineering for safety but also performance, the study of human behavior and as pointed out, the laws of nature. I want to believe that MB does this better than just about any other. Side Curtain airbags, Pre-Safe, Distronic Plus with Pre-Safe Brake, Emergency Brake Assist, Attention Assist, Crumple zones, etc., - I want to believe that my family is better protected by these systems. I think it could make the difference between life and death and hope that my loved ones never have to find out. Thank God the driver seems to be OK.

Man, that's hard to look at. I cannot believe how fortunate the driver was to walk away from that! I probably would have been hysterical.

I wonder what year it was and if it had collision prevention assist. Amazing that the hazard lights still worked, but I guess it was just the roof that was ripped off.

If there was a picture showing that the A pillars of the Benz held up and another picture showing that on another car it did not I could call the sentence of "...why we by MB..."

I really don't get what is so special to call this "...why we by MB..". The whole top part of the car was ripped off. If the driver did not dug his head would also be cut off the shoulders.

Don't you guys think the car must have helped him out in some way? Aren't there things designed in a MB otherwise unavailable in many other cars?
Right or wrong, I buy MB because I truly believe that they are one of the safest vehicles available.

Agreed. We don't know the whole story, but who knows if PRE-SAFE braking kicked in or some other active assist (perhaps the chimes from blind spot assist) feature helped alert the driver to swerve last minute or something. I'd rather have these features than not and think that we're all safer for having them.
