Mileage on Mercedes

G4benz, are those new miles going to be any where near a highway-it can be a lot more fun with those extra horses you have. I always wanted a MB like others here, I finally got one (Not unhappy either) but now after being around the forum for a while, I realize what I really wanted was a MY 12 or 13, E550, 4Matic, Bi-Turbo, do not get me wrong but 268 horses just does not cut it compared to 408 horses that can be tuned upwards of 80 more and is still perceived as a family car protecting my grandpa image. Enjoy G4benz, enjoy.

I moved from a Lexus LS430 (14 years - a great car) to the W212, but I can't make a direct comparison as I went from the big "rocket barge" to the E400. Totally different car. The MB feels more like the Baby Benz I had a while back, while the Lexus was much more laid back.
My analogy to describe the difference would be to personify the cars, and think of having a major disagreement with them. The Lexus would very capably ask "Can't we talk about this?" while the E400 would kick you in the 'nads and ask "You wanna make something of it?"

I have a 15 mile round trip daily commute which may soon increase to 40 due to a change in jobs. This is making me nervous as my baby (yes, the Benz) will be putting on approximately 10K miles a year after this change.
Should I be worried? I am freaking out about this!
The current mileage on my car is 56K.

FYI I find about 20 miles of that commute I can drive as fast as I want...Well going the speed limit of course

I drive about 70-80 miles a day with 75% of it being Highway although NJ highways can be congested quite often. I think it's the perfect car for driving long distances. It's why we love the comfort of it. Don't sweat it you car was made to be driven and driven alot.

55???? Sheesh might as well get out and walk with that limit HA HA. It's usually 65 on Turnpike and GSP. One of the things I love about going down south is seeing the speed limit increase to 70 Mph...It's like heaven.

The good thing is that the poh-leece usually leave you alone if you are moving with the flow of traffic. On the highway, we can get away with 65-70MPH easily unless we catch an officer on a bad day.
I went upstate recently. I could have taken my car to 110MPH. The open roads are very tempting, but I rather not get points and pay for speeding tickets!

Yep, 55 where I live. I think we should have the 65 limit like NJ does. It's a neighboring state dammit!

Sorry for distracting your post but let me know how the commute goes a couple weeks in so we know if you've adjusted to it.

True. Same thing here flow of traffic appears to be more important then the actual limit. So people typically are going 70-75 so it's pretty easy to move along without standing out.

G4 let us know how it is going comfort and speed wise. G4-This is sort of OT, the flow is the way to go-sucks to be a "police person" a lot harder to give out 10 at a time, and you may win the battle-but will always lose the war in court (10-1 odds even if your gun was just calibrated). I try to keep or get the flow moving around 75-80 highway for short safe bursts. IMO everyone must drive safely even if it is fast-and rule one; do not endanger anyone else-ever-that is the difference between a safe driver and unsafe driver-ask any professional.

I'll have to agree that luxury cars are not meant to be "garage queens." Not only does it seem that things go wrong even if they are just sitting there, but what is the point if all you use your car for is to stare at it in the garage?
I've had 4 cars that I kept for 100-200K miles. 3 of the 4 still looked like new when they were passed on to new caretakers. (The 4th was an American car, and was "fully consumed at 160K miles.) I'm planning that my current E-Class follows those 3. I enjoyed those cars greatly, respected them immensely, and over-maintained each of them. That is how I maximize my automotive pleasure.

Some women - well most women - don't get it when it comes to our cars. I stopped trying to explain it but at the same time the money invested is not going to sit in the garage being a Garage Queen either.
