What type of battery should I purchasee
My 2011 E550 seems to need a new battery every two years. Should I buy a 3rd party battery (e.g. Interstate) or get a Benz battery at a dealer? I'm seeing prices from $150 to $200 for the batteries and so am also not sure what exactly to purchase.

As mentioned in a thread you posted on earlier today get a brand name since the (Interstate-Die Hard-Duralast) normally have a 48 month warranty. Get one rated at no less than 850-950 Cold Cranking Amps. If you are not a DIY type most times Pep-Boys/Autozone will help you install the battery since it is in your trunk and they will not get dirty.

TS, any of the following battery brands are excellent (in no particular order)...
Kirkland, sold at Costco
EverStart, Walmart
ACDelco
Duralast Gold, Autozone
DieHard, Sears
Optima, Amazon.com
Don't by a battery from an MB dealer

I agree, don't buy a battery from MB dealer. Their batteries seem to be prone to problems. Will probably go to Costco when the time comes...

As long as the new battery is the correct type, size and capacity, I'd go elsewhere, too. Just take normal precautions to preserve system settings, memories, etc. I usually try to install a new battery prior to failure of the old one. I keep both batteries connected in parallel with jumper cables until the new one is fully hooked up. That way, battery power to the car is never interrupted and all memories are intact.

Made the mistake (sort of) of having MB Roadside Assistance come when mine died since it was free. I had told dealer it wouldn't start and probably the battery so they had one on the van. However, would not be surprised they carry them around all the time. RA came from the dealership.
DO NOT get an MB battery. It costs over $300 and has ONLY a two year warranty.
Since I have RA for free, if happens again I'll get them to come jump it off and drive it to Advance Auto, Auto Zone or Sears.

E Class Battery
Odyssey battery, model PC1220. The best battery money can buy and at $322 it isn't cheap but my last one lasted for 6 years. Hope this helps.

That's a lot of money for a battery with only 680 CCA and a reserve capacity of only 135 min.
As a comparison, a Deka 9agm49 has 850 cca and 170 min reserve and a $200 retail.
Edit: However, having said that, I agree that the "O" is a great battery.

Nothing new here. . . When I bought my Baby Benz in 1988, the dealer service director advised me "When you need a new battery, go to Sears or any high-quality parts source, not MB."
