That's the direction I will go.

Strange logic !!! The current face lifted W212, its replacement W213 and the W222 S Class all have an all in one headlight design. IMO, the styling and functionality of these headlights is superior to those installed in the pre-facelift W212.

I have owned both W212 pre and post facelift. The new full-LED system delivers very effective lighting !

I've driven a loaner E350 with the new LED lights and they are as good or better then the Xenons in my 335. But I still prefer the appearance of 4 lights on the pre-facelift w212. It is/was a distinctive look that made it easy to spot a w212 coming from a distance. With the newer style lights, I still sometimes mistake a C for an S until it's pretty close.

It's no problem for me to spot a 2014-2016 E Class coming toward me from a block away. The twin LED fish-hooks are VERY distinctive and unique. No other car looks like the face-lifted W212 with full LEDs.

I agree that the standard lights are not nearly as distinctive as the full LED package, but the standard lights are a rarity where I live. More than 90% of the new E Class that I seen have the full LED package.

I definitely agree, the facelifted 212 with the lighting package is both distinctive and aggressive. That said, here in San Diego, most 212's I see are not equipped with the lighting package, so yes, they stand out. Glad I have it, love it.

So here is my logic. I have driven many of the newer E class models as loaners for my MY10 E350 and MY11 S550. I don't like anything about them compared to my current E; looks as well as fit, finish, and driving experience. It has little to do with the lighting package. That being said, I still think the hockey stick DRLs on the MY10/11 still look the best.

I also don't like the look of the new W222. I do like the W221 and the lighting package looks great on that car IMHO. When my E runs out of warranty in 2017, I will look for a good used low milage W221 if it can be found. On the other hand. Maybe the W222 will grow on me by then. Not so sure though.
