Me personally I've always loved American cars..Vets, Chargers, Mustangs and the like. I think it's just what the elder guys I was brought up around liked so it rub off on to me. I've always driven American cars until I got this MB. Which I love my E550 it's the best car I've had in my life but not by a landslide. My secondary car (wife's) has been a mix of all kinds of cars so I'm not devoid of driving other vehicles in the past.

Take away value and if someone said pick whatever car for yourself and you can never sell it or get monetary value from it, I'd still pick a Saleen S302 Black Label Mustang.

What are you personal feelings about them? Has your Mercedes been your best vehicle so far?

Mustangs are nice, but the quality just isn't there. If I can pick any car for a daily driver, I would probably go with something like a AMG S63 Coupe.

My first car was American (Chrysler) and I had so many problems I will never go back. Of course the fit and finish has gotten better and I would probably love a Vette as a second car. But I am practical above all - I am really best suited for an Accord or Camry. But I am enjoying my E550 since I got a good deal on it IMO.

My first American car was a Mustang back when I was in college about 30 years ago. The whole interior practically felt apart after 4 years. As we all know, the modern day Mustang's interior is much better quality, but just as American car have improved, so has the Japanese and the German cars.

I agree it appears many cars have improved interior wise. I seem to constantly hear of electrical issues popping up for all brands. Due to all the hi tech stuff that even basic cars come with now a days.

Idk if I agree with that especially if you're talking about the 3 American cars I mentioned. Every american car isn't a standard run of the mill just like every Mercedes isn't an E. I can get a C class for much cheaper than an R/T Charger. Trust me I just priced them before I got my E. I do get what you're saying but it's not always that simple.

"American cars" is an extremely broad classification. There are dramatic differences between a Chevy Sonic, Corvette, and Cadillac CTS-V and Tesla Model S, yet all are classified as American cars.

What category and price point of car are we to compare?

Not really comparing prices at all. It's why in my OP I say take away the monetary value part of it.Just more so your personal opinion of them in general or specific models you like or if you plain ole just hate them lol.
The other gentlemen compared price points, that's not really where I was going but it's an open topic if you want to specify a price point.

I have not owned an American car in over 30 years. In fact, I have only owned two in 45 years. For a great deal of this time I was provided with a company car which was American, so I could indulge myself with various British, Italian, Japanese, Swedish, and German vehicles.

My boss recently picked up the new Corvette with 650hp/650tq and he let me drive it a couple times...

Honestly, it sounded awesome, it was fast as hell, but i'd never spend that kind of money on a car with that type of interior.

It looked flashy just to be flashy. It looked cheap where i'd expect quality (plastic in places I don't want to see plastic) etc...

I don't know... i'd never tell him this but for the kind of money he spent he should've bought an AMG or a Porsche in my opinion.

Much more economical if you want a go fast car to buy American muscle. Really, it isn't even a close contest.

There's a lot of space between the price of a Corvette and a similarly -performing Porsche.

AMGs are completely different vehicles - powerful, but comfortable (and heavy) luxo-cruisers. While Vette's are very track-capable cars out of the box. Someone who's looking for a Vette may not be happy in a similarly-priced AMG, and may not want to spend the money on a Porsche.

I'll never buy GM anything ever again. My 3 kids all has GM cars when they were younger, along with my wife and they were all terrible. Had some luck with Dodge over the years, but until MB burns me I'm staying

American made 1969 Mercury Cougar-350-TH-400 Auto, paid 17K at the showroom, it was the small block V8-350 that would smoke the wheels because of the TH-400 transmission and 1969 MY optional rear end gear ratio in a light weight two door coupe chassis that actually had a lot of room. I never bought American after that car because I worked at Porsche-Audi and I considered anything with a radiator a porker, but now I own a porker E350, so I am starting to like bacon again. A friend has a Dodge SRT Hellcat he special ordered that basically belongs on the track IMO, scary fast, cost him 85K, and the suspension and braking is just not that great for a 700+HP machine IMHO.

for me....challenger or mustang hands down. Not a big fan of camaros. Personally, i look for comfort, quality, and decent performance and my E350 provides that. I wish it was an E550 though haha

For myself personally id never buy American car. Had few and all I can say about them is Garbage + the'r not even made in America anymore. But Mercedes can Inprove in there head gaskets that been leaking since I remember them and brakes are terrible and for a priece they charge Id expect real leather seats from mercedes.. But if someone wants a very reliable car Honda and Toyota is the way.

Never owned an American car but would buy a GT350 or a C5/C6 Z06. I am looking at C5 Z06 to turn into track toys.

It's funny I work for Lexus and my past two cas have been American,2002 Corvette Z06 and then a 2006 Cadillac STS,both great cars and very different, the Vette fast and a lot of brute while the Caddy smooth and quite. Now I drive a 2011 E550 and there is no comparison,The E550 can't be touched

I've owned cars, vans and trucks for fifty years. Some were good and some were bad and that includes foreign as well as domestic brands. Most dependable vehicle I ever owned (as well as the most useful) was a Honda Ridgeline. Most fun to drive was a 1972 Firebird Formula four on the floor. Worst vehicle I ever had was a Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

The best overall vehicle I have ever owned considering looks, reliability, ride and comfort, tech features, utility, and safety is the car I currently own - Mercedes 2012 ML350 SUV. I am looking to up that to the next level in 2016 with a sedan and the E class is high on my list.

Last American vehicle I owned was a 2003 Ford F150 Supercrew. Fairly loaded up, all the bells and whistles. Never liked driving it though, was so big and ponderous. But what got me about it was how hard it was to work on. Had consistant problems with the coil pacs going, and only the front two were accessible, the back two were hidden beneath the cowl. Such a big truck and they tucked the engine so far back making service just a royal PIA. Would never idle right either.

Replaced it with a Tundra, can get to any part of that v8 without much trouble, no serious issues in ten years. That's why no more American cars for me. This last go around, I didn't even test drive one, though I did go look at a Fusion on the lot. It didn't kill me, especially the interior.
