Are tints important to you?

They're a must for me. I have mines a little to dark but I need some sort of tint to get the max pleasure out of my daily commute. Other drivers stare so much so that's part of it and the other is I love the look of a tinted vehicle.

I'm not sure how others feel so that is why I'm asking your opinions as well.

The tint on my E350 is fairly dark and I like it that way. (tint not yet installed the profile pic) My 335i has a lighter tint and I am tempted to have it removed and replaced with darker except I am concerned about messing up the defroster grid on the back window.

Yes tint is a must. I also tint the windshield and sunroof at 70%, you can't tell its tinted.

My sunroof is tinted as well but not as dark as the rest of the car. It came with all the tints when I bought it. Mines have to be like 15%. It's difficult changing lanes at night time because they're so dark. People tell me the can't see in them at all at night time. I don't have the windshield in front done though.

Ahh, I see. Can't they darken them without messing the grids up?

Tint is a necessity. I don't see how anyone could ride with out them. Not only from a style perspective, but heat reduction alone. Tint was (and always is) the first thing I did to my car. Everything else comes after.

Yes. Very necessary. First thing I do is clean all the glass and take it to the best tint shop I can find. Here are my tinted Benz past and present. My new wagon got 20%. The E550 has 38%, which is a bit light for my taste. The C63 and E320 had 35%.

Sometimes they can layer another layer of tint over the existing to darken it.

I put ~30% (darkest legal) all around with 70 on the windshield. For me it's all about temperature control. Not sure I could handle darker than 30 for night driving. Eyes are getting old.

Maybe this is bunk, but I heard adding a layer increases the heat retention which puts more stress on the glass.

I truly cannot live without tint, my E350 had 15 percent tint, that was stupendously dark. My E550 is 35 percent tint, a perfect compromise between looks and functionality.

Firs thing I do to my cars too. I do 35 all rear and 50 on the front driver/pass sides. Don't think I would ever have a car without tint. Actually started to tint my own cars myself.

This.

I forgot to add that to my OP. Heat reduction especially in a sweltering summer makes a huge difference in comfortability.

I get all our cars tinted, not for the look but for UV protection and heat rejection. I usually get the lightest ceramic tint available which is 50% all around, 80% on windshield and 5% on sunroof.

It makes a big difference on hot days when the car has been parked outside for a while. The interior stays much cooler then without tint.

I'll be the lone guy who does not like tint. I've had it in the past, and my wife's car has it. Just not for me...

100% necessity. Bought on Saturday, tinted on Tues. I can't stand driving in bright sun or night time without it. Also protects the interior long term. I have never tinted the front window (illegal) but I always put up a shade when parking in the sun.

I was waiting for someone to post they didn't like them
I was getting worried that we all thought alike. Seems about 75% are for versus against at this point which is more of a sway to one side then I thought it would be. I was assuming more like 60-40. I guess over the next week we'll see if it balances out more.

Same feeling here. I feel naked without it.

What I find very disturbing is that several posters have said "I can't see at night" but they are still in favor of "tints" (the correct term is "tint" - as in tinted glass)

While many posters cite the desire for "heat reduction", darker tint does not serve that purpose. A 60% ceramic tint (3M Crystalline or Huper Optik for example) will provide superior heat and UV rejection while still allowing you to see.

I find it incredulous that anyone would choose appearance over safety. This is sounding more like Honda Civic forum than a MB forum.

The "poll" needs more options:

I want gangsta tints and seeing out at night or in the rain is way overrated.
I want tint only for UV/heat rejection and prefer to be able to see

For those of you "on the fence" about the amount of tint, wear a pair of sunglasses all day and night while driving. Leave them on in tunnels, in parking garages and on dark highways. Most sunglasses allow for 30% light transmission. Remember that you can't take of the tint when it gets dark.

Sorry I just had to respond to this post. The correct term IS actually "tints" in the car world and nobody cares about you correcting grammar. I'll be the first to tell you that my 2015 e350 is 5% all around and 55% on the front windshield. Nobody's opinion on the fact that it is illegal matters to me as this is what I prefer. (I live in Florida and have actually been complimented by a local sheriff about how good it looks) I will also say that it protects the interior from fading and keeps the mbtex cooler by 10 fold. As for the fact of not seeing at night, I just don't drive the car at night if I can help it but even if I do I don't have a problem seeing at all. Must be my young 25 year old eyes. For some reason there is an obstruction in my view I put my big boy pants on and here we go, hold on, I roll the windows down! Lol. It is all a preference of what you like to drive with, I've driven with 5% since I was 17, never been pulled over and have never not been able to see. Thanks for your arrogant opinion, so I figured I would throw a little arrogance back your way.

You sound ghetto when you say "tints", but I guess if you want to break it down, then technically if you have tint on more than one window, then it would be plural.

"Tints" is only correct in the world of ricers. That said, anyone who thinks that it is even remotely acceptable to have to roll the window down in order to see should have their driver's license revoked - you are a hazard to all other drivers.

No, then you have tint on your windows.

I'm sure he also has rims - no wheels, just the rims.

I always thought that this forum had a bit more class, but I guess I was wrong.
