A major problem with the U.S. version of the 2014-up Elegance/Luxury is that there are no exhaust tips, your get stuck with garbage rims you can't change, and worst of all, no V8 option. I hate the watered down options of the U.S. market.

I mentioned the same thing as OP did awhile back about not really liking the 2014 styling on the E. So I've pretty much been looking into 2013 E550s or I might just go to an S-Class of some sort. I have a half a year to decide but maybe the newer style will grow on me since the S looks a little boaty (made up word lol) and other times it looks beastly.

I see one guy who has one and he takes the same way I do to work. I love the look of it but it seems like it's small in the back seat area when compared to the E or S550? I have a couple more years before my son heads to college so I want to make sure he can at least reasonably fit in the back along with my smaller two. I have to take a look inside of one of them since I never have.

You also wouldn't have to concern yourself about seeing the 'old-fashioned' looking Elegance/Luxury versions, complete with 'garbage rims', on our roads. My guess is that the Sport version accounts for more than 98% of E Class Canadian sales.

Hail to Bruno Sacco !!!
Yes, I would agree with you that this version of the W124 was and remains a great looking car. Created by the renowned Italian designer Bruno Sacco who also designed the W201 or 190E/D. Unfortunately, those Euro style halogen headlights never made it to North America.
Unlike the 2014+ W212 Elegance/Luxury version and the W213 Luxury version, the traditional grill of the W124 is restrained in size; it doesn't overwhelm the front face of the car.

im more confused with your statement about "gettin stuck with garbage rims you cant change". apart from your air freshener, rims are one of the easiest thing to change in your car.

In general, I prefer the pre-face lift models. This is true of my 1996 C280, and my wife's 2010 E350.
It seems to me that the facelifts while necessary from a marketing standpoint to extend the lives of models that run a good 8 year span end up injecting questionable style modifications that in my opinion
clash with the purity of the initial design.
I respect those who take a contrary opinion.
Specifically with regard to the 2014 E-class facelift, I stick with my initial reaction to seeing it for the first time - "what a funny fish mouth they added".
Again, this is my own personal take on it, and it is not meant to denigrate those who take a contrary opinion. In matters of taste, there are no rights or wrongs.

After driving my 2010 Sport E350 for 5 years now and comparing it to the numerous loaners of later editions to this model I can't help but overwhelmingly agree with the OP. I know the newer owners don't want to read anything critical about the car they have, and I understand that, but to me the newer editions look and feel more mass produced, less dynamic and in general feel cheaper.
I was all set to buy a new E class in 2015 and felt so strongly about it after driving one of them and disliking everything about it, I bought a used S class. I have not looked back. I really hope my 2010 holds up past the extended warranty when it expires in 2017. I really hate the thought of replacing it. I have never felt that way about any car I have owned. I honestly don't like any of the new models MB is launching; including the new S class. I suspect that I will have to find a good used 2013 S class when the warranty lets go of my 2010 E class.

I do not like the changes either. However interior changes look good. So far I see my car more inside than outside, especially front of it. Therefore the ugly look doesn't bother me much.
