I come from Japanese owned vehicles. I had a Honda that hit 280,000 miles without any major hiccups and a Toyota that hit 250,000 miles without any major hiccups. If my 2010 E550 can do the same, I'll be happy! I don't think Toyotas and Hondas are rattly if they can last this long. I'm not referring to build quality here but durability/stamina.
Linked are new registration in Germany for the 3rd quarter of 2015. The first column is current ranking while the second column shows 2014 rankings. Golf is #1 and the Honda Civic is at #95. The top Japanes vehicle is the Nissan Qashqai (Rogue) at #28. The C is at #3 and the E is at #27

My German friends just think Japanese cars are dull - not so much unreliable, but just forgettable to look at and drive. Where running a car is vastly more expensive, and even gaining a license takes a lot more work, people might appreciate the driving more (plenty of dull Japanese cars on German roads though).

Number of Japanese and other "dull" cars on German roads exploded since they joined the Euro. The exchange rate was 2 DM to 1 Euro. But they did not change the price stickers on the German cars. They doubled the car pricing just like that.
Naturally people's paychecks were changed to reflect the exchange rate so just overnight German gars became very expensive for German people to buy. Other "dull" cars started to appear and now there are almost more other than German cars on German roads when it used to be almost all German cars.

2015 E350: 18,000 miles in 6 months...and the car's been in the shop for the remaining 5 months of the year. I believe 2,000-3,000 of those miles have been put on the car by the dealership. Still currently at the shop as I type this.... Not all E's have the same fate, unfortunately.
I sold my 2004 Infiniti M45 with 216,000 miles on it... I was the original owner. It faithfully ate an AC compressor every 72,000 miles, transmission gearshift linkage broke inside the tranny (ugh!), fuel gauge became overly optimistic so that empty = 1/2 tank remaining on the gauge, replaced a crankshaft position sensor at ~200k, headlamps were $400 EACH to replace and well worth it considering you had to disassemble the entire front of the car to do so. Don't forget the oil changes every ~$3500 miles... but overall, good car. Very rough teething problems for the first 60,000 miles or so with cabin build quality, but once that was sorted out, great car. Definitely was a better car at 100k than new. Would I buy another Infiniti today? Nope. Glorified Nissan Maximas with major electronics glitches on some of them.
Keep in mind that US-spec German cars aren't the same as Euro-spec. In many cases you have completely different parts. Indeed, many of the problems I've had with my W212 don't seem to be common to Canadian and European W212's, but I've seen some of these problems in 100% of the E350's I've driven and I believe I've driven ~6-10 of them this year.

I got a new transmission at 48,000 miles under warranty. Nothing was wrong with it...went into dealer for service...came back shifting terribly....3 weeks of teardown to diagnose it and they decided I needed a new transmission.
I'm now at 50000. Very glad I bought the ELW so I can be comfortable with potential problems for the next few years.

I have an e550 coupe with 79,000 miles. So far I've had to replace the battery for $400 installed and the starter for $1000 installed, both at the dealer. However, my pano sunroof and shade needs to be replaced and my drivers side seat no longer automatically comes forward (Coupe only issue). I can't find any independents to work on the sunroof so I'll be forced to bend over at the dealership. The sunroof was one the main draws for me in the first place.
I just started a new sales job and I'm sure I'll be right around 15k miles a year. I figure as long as I stay up on maintenance and service I should be fine. Other than the hole in the gas tank and the issues mentioned above it has been pretty solid. I can't imagine driving some econo-box again.
Also my seat bolsters and leather (no mbtex) have held up extremely well.

That's excellent. I hope my 550 gets to that # without any major hiccups! I love this car and plan to keep it until she goes bye bye.

but not every thing went well until now we had quite a few issues. the w212 had a lot of issues on the diesel fuel injectors so the were replaced a lot of times until mercedes came with a solution for them. Also a few issues with the terrible DPF filter, and power steering pump also was replaced, all of this on warranty...

the latest was with the fuel pump on the tank and it was already out of warranty so it was quite expansive to replace.... and now I'm having a small problem when the the temperature is low it stalls when I take it off the garage....

200k plus is a lot of miles. So I wouldn't think any problems that arise now are unfortunate as much as a something that's due to arise. Hopefully you can get another 100k or more out of it.

The ones with "big" problems under 100K miles sound like 1) they are hard on cars and/or 2) they are nit-picking every little thing they think they see or hear because the car is under warranty and they have time to burn taking it back and forth to the dealer to complain about it and get loaner cars.
I have 67K miles, everything works and looks perfect on my 2012 E550. Just bought it, but the Carfax shows only regular check-ups every 10K.
