Searching and Buying E550 Convertible
I am looking for a beautiful E550 Convertible or information on what to look out for when purchasing. I am in the Washington DC area and have seen a magnificent beauty 2011 at a dealership for about $45K. I thought a few K less would be perfect as I had a S500 but it lived at the mechanic's because it was a 2003.
Let me know how to find a good car anywhere in the continental.

2011 E550
Just a word of advice, if you can, go for the 2012 version as the engine is heaps better than the one in the 2011. Also the tuning capabilities on the 2012 engine are freaking insane!

2010 E550 P2 w/AMG Sport Package + Pano, 2015 Nissan Pathfinder
Wow 45k seems like 10k to high. Is there more specifics that you are looking for? A certain packaging, Pano, 4Matic, Distronic, CPO etc.

^^^ OP is looking for a convertible so Pano and 4matic aren't options. They area a bit more expensive than the sedans.
I'd make sure to get one that is a 2012+ with distronic.

Ok that makes sense for no Pano based on the length and top off ability but I wonder why no 4matic for them. Is there a clear reason I'm over looking? I know many people in bad weather areas like where I'm at who still have convertibles.

I would also suggest 2012+ for the Bi-Turbo V8. Here's a great example (2013 E550 Cabriolet, $43K, 12k miles) with very low miles in Fredericksburg, VA:

What year did the interior of the E cab get a refresh? I remember looking at 2011/12's and they had the C class console arm rest and Gear shift. At the time I thought....hmm is this thing built off of a C class Chassis? I know it's not but made me wonder based on similar interiors. Looked at a 2014 recently and noticed this had changed to match the current E sedans. Much better look IMO.

2012 Convertible Seems Best
Thanks everyone for the advice on the convertible. I am looking at 35K now. I am surprised to hear no more E550's.
What engine, body, airmatic issues can I expect or be on the lookout.
I actually like working on the cars a bit. However since moving into the city I don't have the space to jack the car and get under it as easily.
What mods can I expect to do.

That one posted above looks like a nice one in the 40K+ price range, although I don't like white cars, or especially light-colored interiors.
I'm sure you'll find another with a few more miles in the $35K range. I agree to go for 2012+ engine in a 550. Not sure if the verts had airmatic past 2012, but it's a rare option only in the 550 sedans of those years.
Mechanical issues seem to be rare so far, but I always say getting a convertible is just asking for long-term trouble, and they always ride like crap compared to a hard top. Hopefully you are able to park it inside at least.
Probably coupe/vert section will give you better info as stated in last post.
