Car warning me to check oil level? Also what is your oil preference?

Hey everyone,

My car has recently started alerting me to "Check oil level at next refueling" or something along those lines. I have checked the oil and it's about 50% of the way from the "min" line to the "max" line.

I'm also due for Service B in about 300 miles or so. Here's my question:

Is the car notifying me simply because it knows i'm due for Service B/oil change soon and it doesn't want me to forget? I have to drive about 500mi or so before my Service B and i'm wondering if I can forget about it or if I should put some oil in myself.

Thoughts? I'm also curious what everyone prefers as far as oil is concerned...

A low oil message needs to be addressed fairly quickly. Since you will be flushing it out shortly anyway, any oil that meets specs and has the proper viscosity will work nicely.

i'd expedite the oil change than topping it.

That's within the acceptable range according to the manual and the dip stick doesn't lie. The oil level sensing unit could be bad.

I would trust the dipstick reading before some electronic monitor.

Coming from a BMW 5 series with no dip stick, that dip stick in my Mercedes is a godsend.

You could always take it in and not wait for the 300 miles. But if you can't, I would check the level each day to see how it changes. The messages are unrelated to the timing of service. Any evidence of oil leaks or burn off of oil coming from exhaust?

Since I am still on a warranty and at the dealer where I purchased the E, this dealer stated to me a few times, bring it in, we will top up the fluids if needed.

Might want to check with your dealer anyway, if the dipstick is correct and the E is giving off a false alarm condition.
