Navigation system update for 2014 W212 E350
I received an email from the dealer I purchased the car from. They say they have an update for my navigation system I believe for $229. I called them and asked if it was a full update or just a partial. They did not know. I do not want to get an up date if it does not fix the current problem of me not being able to put where I live into it. Does anyone know if this update is really for my vehicle or not. Thanks.

Here we go again. You will receive a mail out or similar from the dealer or MBUSA re: updating your navigation system. It is generally about $250 and takes a couple of hours and you car has to be running the entire time.
The updates don't really amount to very much as regards specific streets, highways, restaurants, etc. in my experience. It does not fix any problems.

Don't know
What issues are you having? There are some types of updates where they correct problems with the system. You really need to talk to dealer about this specifically as it relates to your VIN.
Might want to wait until eligibility for free updates expires, if it does.
Guess it is two types of "updates." One to fix glitches in system and one just to update navigation data in your hard drive.
Ain't technology grand?

Don't know, but I receive something every year and others do as well. It is something MBUSA wants to sell you. If it is the same thing, all it does is update the information on the hard drive in your car. May change some of the graphics.

have you tried "saving position" whilst youre at your house? then save it as "home" then go to your saved addresses every time you want to go home. works for me.
anyway, with the update, normally takes years before MB "actually" updates maps and what not. so if yours is only 2 years old or has been updated recently(?) due to your nav problems then just save your free system update for later.

my dealership updated my coupe once for free but thats when they replaced the rear sam for around AU$3500 iirc. it was a good update since the car is 2011 and update was 2015 (i reckon). much difference.

Does this update has to be purchased within a particular time frame? I believe some of the navigation systems will tell which area of the map has been updated. If your area is not included, there's no point in updating. Generally wait at least 5-7 years since software installed in your car at least for some meaningful update.

Unfortunately the only way to tell if the update will help you is by doing it. I don't think MB has specific information on what each annual update includes other than generic info like so many thousand POI have been updated. Since you get one for free, why not see if the service manager will grant you another free update next year if this one doesn't fix the issue. Have them put it in writing on invoice.
