Question Samsung S7 bluetooth issues

Hi all...just got my new Samsung Galaxy S7 phone and tried to connect to my 2011 E550 4matic. Seems to pair but then drops the connection and cant make calls via bluetooth. No joy on media either. Have rebooted phone, have cleared cache, have unpaired and repaired to MB, nothing seems to work. I know BT works fine as i have a Samsung S6 and that works fine. I also know the S7 BT works as I connected two different headsets to the device.

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but all signs point to older BT SW on the benz vs the brand new SW on the phone. But want to see if others are having similar troubles.

Thanks.

Sounds like an incompatibility with the latest version of Bluetooth. Do you know what version is your Bluetooth in the S7 and S6? My Nexus 6P is version 4.2 and it disconnects periodically and reconnects after a few seconds.

that's what I am thinking too. have you found any solution? does it stay connected long enough to make a call?

S6 edge spec: Bluetooth v4.1, A2DP, LE, apt-X - NO ISSUES with MB
S7 edge spec: Bluetooth v4.2, A2DP, LE, apt-X

For info...bluetooth version from head unit: s/w f/w ver: C0360

Have you deleted all of the other phones from your MB and all of the cars from your phone? Then rebooted your phone and re-paired to the car?

yup. tried that. even went into the engineering menu and deleted all bluetooth phones as well.

Trying a reset of all of the network connections now.

very frustrating...

I can't offer advice on this phone, but I have family members who have had similar problems pairing a new phone to a 2006 Lexus. I thought newer versions of BT were always backwards compatible with older devices.

After you paired, did you get a message on the S7 about the car wanting access to call logs and contacts?

thanks for the questions. yes. tried answering yes and no.

behavior is this: it looks like it connects for about 5 seconds then the audio and media settings under the bluetooth for the car are moved to off. when I try to turn them on, it says cant connect to car. the car, however, still shows connection to the phone and then gets hung up (meaning I cant delete the pairing) until I restart the car.

I have no problems with a 2013 E350 and the S7. Everything works fine (making/receiving calls, streaming pandora etc).

Maybe you need to have your HU firmware updated to latest version?

thanks...i suspect that is it as well, especially if others with newer models dont have issues. Maybe as the week progresses and people get their phones, we will hear from others on their experience and we can narrow down the issue.

i hope that it is something simpler as my experience with MB to get firmware updates is like asking for someone's first born.

I never have problem getting software/firmware updates from MB. Every year when I bring the car in for the annual A/B service, I ask them to check the ECU/TCU and Nav/Radio firmware and update it to latest.
Dealer always has done that without any question. If there is an update, they'll show me what version my car had, and what version they updated it to.

Mine is due for 60k B service so will make sure to insist on a COMAND s/w f/w update. thanks

More data. I did an external authorization and was able to pair the car to the phone. Worked great... until...I restarted the car. The Bluetooth connection was made but behaved the same way. Could not keep the audio and media connection. Had trouble deauthorizing as well.

Restarted car, unpaired phone. Deauthorizing phone. Restarted car. Repaired via external authorization. Worked again. And again after restart Bluetooth behaved the same way.

I think the only thing I can think of at this point is that command sw and fw has to be updated.

Will do next time I am at the dealer...

Ugggg

Sorry to hear it's not working out. Btw, you can cycle power on the comand system with the power button on the front of it. No need to cycle power on the car.

Makes sense to be sure your 2011 is up to date with the latest firmware for comand. Although I doubt they are still coming out with updates, you may still have an older version. Good luck.

I am having the same issue with my 2010 E550. I guess my next step is going to be to go into the dealership and have them do a firmware update on everything. Fortunately I am still under CPO warranty, so I should be able to get away with it with no cost.

Verizon's Galaxy S7 worked on my 2007 E550 (with bluetooth dongle) and 2014 E350 without any issue, both phone calls and contact transfer worked.

Quick update: I was able to get it to pair up properly! However, it only stays paired for that one time, and once the car is shut down, the next time it does not pair again.

I was able to do this by going into the engineering menu and wiping out all phones from the system from there. I also changed a setting for bluetooth speed (under the SW Setting menu on page one of the engineering menu) to be active, though I am not sure if it was that or the full reset of information that did the trick.

Now to figure out how to get it to maintain the connection between car stops!

Having the same issue as noted in this thread and tried everything already outlined as I went thru this same situation when i got my Note4 edge and had to get the firmware updated.. I actually had an update to my S7 Edge about 2 weeks ago but that didn't fix the issue. Just checked for another update and sure enough, one is pending. installing now and hopes this fixes my issue. will let you all know in a few.

Yes Sir, issue resolved
Here is what i had to do

Update the phone
De-authorized all devices on HU
Unpair from my phone
External authorization from HU and got it setup and working
turned car off/on and it didnt reconnect
when to BT audio and click on the samsung and it connected (which it never did before)
thereafter, it connected after a restart or power on/off of HU

YAH!!!

I don't know how long I had an update pending, but I just did an update a couple of days ago on my S7 via Sprint and now things are working properly. Looks like Samsung has managed to fix the problem, folks!

(Now, let's just hope they don't break it in a future update!)

Bump. Any update to this issue? Just got a new phone (and provider, for less dropped music streaming) yesterday (LG V20, same as S7), and the car won't keep the bluetooth connection for longer than 1 trip after external authorization. Also doesnt read the song on the screen even when connected.
Had 0 issues with previous phones.
Very frustrating is an understatement.

EDIT: Just spent an hour at the dealer getting the firmware update - same sh*t.
Car is 2012 CLS63.

add me to the list. Got new LG G5 with BT4.2. Same behavior that others posted here.

I guess I'll have to wait to update android for a fix. It doesn't seem that updating comand firmware changed anything for others. I use this feature everyday so being disconnected is a pain. Going through external authorization for long trips isn't a big deal. But short trips it's too much hassle to keep re-authorizing the phone.

The nice thing for you is, you have a wonderful soundtrack right underneath that hood of yours for those short trips
