"keyless go" is MB term for, well, not needing keys to open/lock doors and start your Merc. keyless start is probably another term used by another car company. same as "quattro" for audi and "4matic" for MB. somebody please correct me if im wrong.

I had a c-class loaner that required you to press the key-fob to open the doors, but then you pressed just a button to start the car and drive. I thought that was strange.

Yeah, kind of what I was referring to as well. I have other keyless entry/start cars and the sequence of using it is similar to the MB Keyless Go, but not exactly the same.

All BMW are like that unless you get the comfort access option.

Okay, weird. Never seen that. Perhaps that is what the OP is asking about.

Well what's also common is that the keyless go door handles go bad. So if it had keyless go, the door handle or the sensors might have been bad. But there are other car models out there that just have the keyless start, but you still use the remote to open the doors. Not really sure how helpful that is. I like the keyless go where you don't have to press the fob, makes it easier if you're carrying a bunch of things.

KEYLESS-GO (889) = You do not have to remove the keyfob from your pocket/purse to unlock/lock the doors or to start the car. There are proximity sensors all around (and in) the car.

KEYLESS-START (893) = You need the keyfob to unlock/lock the doors, but keyfob does not need to be inserted into the ignition to start the car (internal proximity sensor only).

That car had KEYLESS START. It is significantly cheaper than KEYLESS-GO.

Can Keyless Start be added by just buying (and programming) the Start Button?

Even with my wife's E400 Keyless Go, I leave key in pocket, leave car, I still have to either turn around & physically touch door handle or manually hit the lock button on remote control to lock the door.

Now my Vette truly has "Keyless Go", I leave key in pocket, walk away 15 feet from car, it auto locks itself. Such amazing technology from Gov't Motors...

I just tap the handle before I walk away, or even brush the top of my finger along it as I'm walking away. Don't even have to look/turn around when I do it. But I can see that Vette tech being handy if you had a teleporter to 'phase' you from the seat in your car to the couch, since you wouldn't be able to touch the outer handle in that case.

KEYGO bugs me when I open the locked car's trunk to put my stuff away and then close the trunk, locking the car, only to have to go round to the driver's door and unlock it again. I guess I should unlock the car with the fob as I approach it, so closing the trunk doesn't lock it all up again.....

Do you have the power trunk closer? The button to the left just closes the trunk, the one on the right locks it. Just use the left button to close the trunk and then you don't have to unlock the doors. Or are you saying you don't have the power trunk closer and it automatically locks when you close the trunk?

Yes, I have the power closer and it always locks when it closes. Once again, this is when I approach the locked car and open the trunk with the handle. I push the close button(left) and it closes and locks every time. I am assuming the car is smart enough to know it was locked when I opened the trunk, so it determines it should lock itself when it closes as well. If I am doing something wrong, I am all ears. Lol

I think he wants to get into the car after closing the trunk, but it locks on him (or never actually unlocks the side doors, most likely) when going around to the side doors, so if you have the audible lock enabled, it'll honk when the trunk closes, if you can't open a door (or grab on the door handle, at least) fast enough. Minor annoyance, I get it. To get around that, since I park with the front of the car facing the house, I just grab one of the side handles as I walk around the car to the trunk and it unlocks the doors for when I'm ready to get in.

My 2011 without KeylessGO honked 3 times on lock, once on unlock. So I can see that being even more annoying than no honk on unlock, one honk on lock (assuming the 2010 is the same as the 2011). Much prefer the single chirp the C class used to give, back in 08 (my friend had one... I think the newer ones switched to the honk), but it's not that big of a deal to me. I still forget whether or not I locked it sometimes, and end up having to go back out and check haha

edit: I see you posted before I did, Key. I don't think you're doing anything wrong... that's just how it works.

Actually it doesn't lock the doors, it's already locked. You can't expect it to unlock the doors when you hit the left button. You mentioned having to unlock it again, but it sounds like it was already locked. If it's something else, you could close the trunk from the button inside the car.

The weird thing with mine is that the trunk button inside the car doesn't close it... I hear the release click when I push the button, even if the lid is up. It would appear that my interior button isn't connected to the motor to close the trunk.

You guys are correct. The doors never unlock, just the trunk. So, technically I am listening to the chirp chirp chirp when the trunk closes and thinking "now I have to unlock the door". I need to just roll up a newspaper and hit myself in the head a couple of times and take a different approach. ha!

I have Key-Less go on both of my cars however, the Murano has a little divet (Pokes Out) that you have to press. Also when I leave I have to press that tab as well. The E is easier since I can just brush against it even with my leg or almost any part of my body and it will notice and lock or unlock.

Questions? Do some of your cars honk when locked or unlocked or chirp? Mines makes that chirp sound (loud beep). I believe its one chirp on unlock and a double chirp on lock.

Are you sure you hold the button when you try closing ther trunk? If you just quickly press it will not close and if you release the button while it is closing it will reverse and open again. Must be full closed before release the button.

I held it for about 10 seconds and nothing happened. All I hear is the latch release, then nothing. I'll give it another shot later though... raining now.

edit: Ah, didn't realize you had to push the button for it to close; previously I was only pulling on it. All is well.
