2014 W212 Engine Air Filter question
My car has about 25k miles, but I wanted to see the condition of engine air filter.
What I found in the filter housing is something different from all the pictures I see in the forum.
First this one is same as others cars. It came off from the left side of engine by removing three screws holding the box.
Then looking inside there is another filter. This one cannot be removed unless the other half of the box is removed. It didn't look obvious how that can be done. I don't know what kind of filter this is and how it can be changed.
I think I even saw a picture of 2012 E350 which has filter on both side of the engine like in E550.
what's interesting is that there is another opening on the driver side, above the grill, but it's been blocked off.
Any expert out there on engine air filter situation for facelift W212 E350.

I found this on C-class forum.
Basically the second filter hidden inside is charcoal filter. The one

The one pictured in the post is identical to what is in my car, and apparently it's not removable unless you break off the tab that's holding it.
I have never seen a car where there are two layers of air filter for the engine, especially a charcoal filter.
At least, I now know that it's not meant to be replaced.
