How important is the Tyre Load Rating?
a lot of tyre brands dont make the required load rating for my sedan in 20" wheels. appreciate any input. cheers!
im a bit confused as ive spoken to a few tyre guys and half say its important, not to mention legal, and some say its not as important and my sedan is already illegal in a way as im running 20s already.

came in and had it checked, apparently front tyres are separated and i need a pair. fair enough. problem is with my tyre size, only low quality chinese makes them with the 95 and up load rating otherwise i have to go with high end brand and would cost more than what i want to spend.
heres my dilemma, i can put a "better" quality chinese (better than whats on now apparently) tyres for less than $150 with correct load rating but i may end up with the same situation soon. or i can have a middle class brand like hankook, conti or kuhmo for about 250 but with lower load rating.
im thinking, better brand with lower rating or cheap brand with correct rating.

If you're not planning on keeping the car, then go with the off brand and hope the last pair of bad tires was a fluke. If not, I would pay the price to not worry about them.
Edit: good point when you mentioned about keeping the car for long or not. Right now, i enjoy it as a daily and with occasional long drives and when i get tired of it i tend to use the other cars so i might have it for a lil longer.

Tire load rating is how much the sidewalls are design to support, if you drive on under rated tires, you will risk premature tire failure or in a worst case scenario, a tire blowout. Ask the tire dealers who said it was ok to drive on under rated tire to put it in writing, I bet none of them would do it. A couple of areas to consider are how often do you drive your car fully loaded, how fast do you drive on the highway or how often do you drive aggressively. Over-inflating the tires a bit can help, but your threads will not wear evenly and tire traction will be compromised.

youre absolutely correct. nobody will put that in writing, matter of fact they will have me sign a waiver if i want to put under rated tyres.
but with my situation, its like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. dont want to spend too much with this car. daily driven conservatively (cant be too aggressive with this engine
) long drives here and there doing occasional 150k/hr. i inflate my tyres at 40psi.so its pretty much this...better brand with lower rating or cheap brand with proper rating. correct tyre size and load rating for my car/wheel will set me back north of $600/tyre.

anyways, i ended up with Hankooks with 90W. so much quieter now and rides better, i reckon. will update this thread after a few months and see. thanks for all the help guys! i really appreciate it.
