New Owner SENSOR question

I recently bought a 2014 E350 CPO car with 22,000 miles on it. Thrilled has it is a great car and it has been sometime since i have owned a Mercedes. Last one was a 1997 SL500 then went to the dark side driving Jaguar XJR's - what a mistake that was and it only took 2 of them to find that out! So here I am trying to figure out the electronics on my car and I see that I have a back up camera with the added bonus of the guide lines but I cannot for the life of me find out out if I have any rear or front sensors or not. Was this an option on our cars? And if so which options was it on? Somewhat frustrating has every time I start the car I get a tone and a display on the center area (MPH) that shows 2 arrows one pointing forward and the other rearward and then they shut down. Or is there a way to turn this on? HELP

The parktronic sensors would be installed in the front and rear bumpers and should be easily identified. The readout for the sensors is on the dash at the bottom of the windshield for the front and at the top of the rear window on the back center of the headliner for the rear ones.

Thanks

Thanks for your quick response, so although I get a display that buzz's on start up and I have a back up camera it seems I do not have parking sensors to my car. I do not have the sensor on the dashboard or rear panel. WOW kind of shocking on such a late model car...

The parkronic system is available as an option or may have been part of a top tier premium package. You can check the old brochures online to see what else was offered.

You should feel lucky you have the guidelines on the rear camera. 2014 might have been the first year for those even though guidelines were common on lesser cars earlier than 2014.

why do people always assume that if its a later model car, it has to have everything. otherwise its a shocker for them. then starts comparing it to their old kia or hyundai. smh

True. Parking sensors on every car made are the same and you can't miss them when looking at a car that has them. I like the Parktronic system. Some say it's antiquated, but if you know what you are looking at with the proximity LED's it is actually extremely accurate.

My 04 Jaguar XJR was loaded with front, rear sensors and expected that this car may have. And if you read my initial post you will see that I have a light, buzzer going off on my dash that shows the front and the rear of the car directional lighting up and then goes off after 10 seconds (it also shows has OFF in between the arrows). SO if you can help please do so, if you only have some wise crack then send me a personal message I could always use a laugh and you seem to be a clown.

I do not blame the OP for thinking the sensors were standard, and they probably should be on a late model Mercedes-Benz, however they are very easy to spot on the exterior. There are 6 sensors in the front bumper and 6 in the rear. So if your bumpers are free of these "dots" then you do not have sensors.

Surely you must know what a parking sensor looks like on a bumper.

I realize that most luxury cars are ordered by dealers with what they believe will be popular option packages. Most cars I've shopped list parking sensors as an option. Now the dealer may have ordered it that way so it would sell to their target customer, but that doesn't mean the sensors are standard on base models.

OP, if you want help with what you are seeing on the dash, why not post a picture of it?

I am curious as to what that display and tone is for also. A distronic warning?

Yes I do know what the sensors look like on the bumpers but this display has thrown me off and that is what I am trying to figure out. Since it's a CPO car I will be going by the dealer and see if they can shed some light. The build sheet with all options listed does not mention anything about this. Thank you all for extending your expertise it is appreciated and it reminds me of the other site I belong to, Ferrarichat. It seems that owners have more information than dealers most the time. Passion runs deep!

For sure. I'm key03 at FChat, but only spend time in the Lamborghini section. Lol
So nothing in the manual on this display? I will try to look at the manual for your year and see what the heck that may be. Let us know if you find out. Do you know if you have the Distronic option or lane departure?

I downloaded your complete manual on the MBUSA site and went through it, starting on page 257 where the display warning information begins. Man, I cannot find anything that matches your description showing up in the Multifunction display. Most warnings also come with a small descriptor as you know, to obviously make it an easier diagnosis. Sorry. Let us know what they tell you it is. Maybe it's a warning to look forward and backwards before setting out on your drive. Lol

Ok

Never got to the Dealer today too much stuff with the kids! That being said I will take a photo of it when it goes on and post it for all. Something strange happened on the freeway today, as I was speeding up and getting close to the car in front of me I got a warning tone. Not sure if its related...

Perhaps it is a collision warning feature. See these threads:

If you posted the VIN, those with epcnet or access to a vin decoder could see exactly what options your car. I think buyers tend to assume too much. I knew I wanted bi-xenons on my car so I research it before I bought it so that I knew it actually had it. I've seen lots of ads from people who think their car has bi-xenons, but they just have halogens. On 2014+, they got rid of bixenons and it's all LED. Most MB's I see for sale are typically just one or two steps above the base models, most dealers don't order them fully loaded because that can add an extra 10k to the price so it makes it less competitive with other car makers. I see ads all the time that claim the car is fully loaded, yet it comes with only a standard P1 package although every once in a while you see a car that doesn't even have the P1 package.

Ok, cool. You have the collision prevention assist. I assume your start up warning graphic and tone is simply telling you it is turned off. Turn it on.
