Costco is listed as TopTier, but I'm not sure if that covers Canada or not. You may want to check with them if nobody here knows.

My question is, if the gas isn't listed on the top tier site, does that mean it isn't top tier? I used brand such as sunoco and gulf and was always under the impression they were top tier. However, they aren't listed on the site but it list brand I never even heard of, probably because many of these aren't located in the northeast US.

If its not listed, its not top tier, but that doesn't mean its bad gas. A gas companies do not want to go thru all the red tape of becoming a top tier gas supplier.

Also all top tier stations have the top tier sign on the actual pumps.

My father and I used Gulf gas until it went out of business. My father-in-law owned a Gulf station. But that was the "old" Gulf. I understand there is the "new" Gulf in the Northeast.
Perhaps your Gulf has chosen not to become Top Tier.

Top tier certification is actually not too complicated or expensive. So if you don't see a Top Tier certification, you can assume the fuel doesn't meet TT specs.
True, just because a gasoline isn't top tier doesn't mean it's bad, but Top Tier is a pretty good indicator of detergency performance - which is really most important for those keeping their vehicles long-term. If you're trading the car in at the three year mark, you probably won't have enough time for any significant deposits to accumulate.

Just got an email from Consumr Reports re: AAA testing. Bottom line: it's worth the money.http://www.consumerreports.org/car-m...-extra-price/?
Interstingly, about 30 minutes ago I was talking with a guy re: gas and he related an intersting story. He usually purchases regular gas from a local independent station, but a week or so ago bought some from the local BP station. His truck ran better on the BP gas.
What makes it intersting is that the two stations are owned by the same person. I have talked with him and the BP gas comes from the tank farm after BP requirements (additives) are met. He didn't say, but I assume the other gas comes from same tank farm, but with no or lesser additives.
