Car seat recommendation

Hello all

We have our first baby due in a month and looking to get some recommendations on car seats/travel systems...

I have 2011 e550 4matic... and I would like to install it in middle seat ... I dont want the base to take lot of space... at least leave some room for two skinny people to fit on sides

Any suggestions??

We used Britax b-safe infant seat and stroller system in our E350 last year when our 2nd son was born. With the seat in the middle, we were able to sit two moderately sized adults on either side. (My wife 5'7", and my mom 5'4").

Now that he has outgrown the infant seat, we are using a Diono Rainier in rear facing mode. We can still seat two adults on either side. We'll be turning the Diono to front facing in a few months as his legs are already too long and kicking the seat back constantly.

We went with the infant carrier (baby bucket) with separate base for as long as we could (until baby grows too tall). Something like the top of the ears are near the top of the seat. IIRC it was a Graco. Those are so convenient for buckling the kid in while at home and then transferring them from car to stroller to seat holders at restaurant, etc. without having to take them out of carrier to avoid waking them. And with the separate drop in base it is easy and cheap to hook up separate bases in different cars including grandparents.

After they outgrew the bucket (which was almost 10 months for the first kid and 6 months for the second one), we did the Britax rear facing until they were big enough (1 year or 20 pounds IIRC). Those convertible seats are great but they take up a lot of room when rear facing and could effect how far back your front seats go. Plus the back is so high it makes it harder to see the kid from over the seat. But once you can turn it around front facing they are great.

One tip - I would put one of those crib liners under the seat to act as a seat cover. One of those that is felt on top and rubber/vinyl on the bottom. Those are great for protecting your seats from spills and messes and they are washable. You can cut them to custom size including custom slits so you can pass through latch attachments.
