If you took away the wheel and owner's manual questions, there would only be one post a day here.
But to be fair to the OP, I hardly ever use the button and I forget what it's for. Until I make a mistake and then can't remember if I use the back or clear button in that situation. Half the time I am wrong.

Not so much now, but I used it a lot when loading CD's into Music Register. I used the wheel and change feature to rename many of the folders. This required clearing out the provious information.
Also use it when loading addresses into navigation memory.
Although this may be different from the "CLR button."

Actually this a pretty good but simple question. I just use it as a back button if IRC but never paid it much attention if it does the same as back button does in all menus etc.

Not negative to you in particular - just members seeing a trend on the forums. People would rather ask a question even though it is clearly within their own capability to find the answer. Digital society complacency
FWIW - anything your car has or can do is findable in the PDF manual available from MB online. Press Crtl F to Search, type in the term, and you scan scan through all the sections where the search term was found...but I am sure you all knew this already...

What does the “CLR” button stand for
CLR “clear button” owners manual says: to delete individual characters: briefly press the “CLR” clear button.
To delete an entire entry: press and hold the “CLR” clear button.
