TPMS Sensors Question

i have a quick question (can expand on the story if anyone cares), but if you only have 1 out of the 4 tyres with a functioning sensor will the TPMS system on the dash show the tyre pressure for that one location or will the message overall be that the system is inoperative?

thanks

Tyre pressure monitor / Important safety notes / 4th paragraph

If a tyre pressure monitor system is fitted, the vehicle's wheels have sensors fitted that monitor the tyre pressures in all four tyres. The tyre pressure monitor warns you if the pressure drops in one or more of the tyres. The tyre pressure monitor only functions if the corresponding sensors are fitted to all wheels.

ok, good. i'm currently going through TPMS programming hell and my shop said they were able to program one sensor and asked me to drive around to evaluate it, obviously nothing is showing up and the system is saying failed because other 3 aren't programmed yet...

also, a follow up question... is the car able to remember multiple sets of sensors (for example summer set and winter set) or do they have to be reprogrammed every time?

the long story of why i'm going through this is that i bought a set of sensors (and their own proprietary tool) that are able to clone the original sensors -- the idea was to swap out winter/summer tires and the car would always think the same tyres are on -- this is me assuming that the car is only able to remember one set of sensors and not multiple?

thanks again.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the car will pick up whatever sensors are within proximity of the receiver. I have OEM sensors in both of my sets of wheels, and when I swap one for the other, I just hit reset from the dash menu and it picks up the new set after a few miles of driving (latest time took about 10 mins before they started sensing, but generally it's fine by the time I get out of my neighborhood). Pretty sure the computer doesn't say "oh cool, you put the old wheels back on"

Just a bit farther down…
Tyre pressure monitor / Important safety notes / Checking tyre pressure electronically / 2nd paragraph after 4 bullet points:
After a teach-in period, the tyre pressure monitor automatically recognises new wheels or new sensors. If a clear allocation of the tyre pressure values to the individual wheels is not possible, the message is shown instead of the tyre pressure display. The tyre pressures are already being monitored.

whenever you change wheels i would recommend resetting TPMS , even if you using old sensors on new wheels it still would make sense to reset not speaking of a new set of sensors

bumping an old thread to share that, when I put on my donut spare tire which doesn't have a TPMS sensor, the tire reading for the other 3 tires were still displayed. The yellow TPMS light came on and the center cluster said 'TirePress Sensor(s) Missing' and showed a dash for the location of the donut.
