2014 Windshield Weather Stripping Breaking Down???
Getting in my 2014 E350 today I noticed some leaves sticking to the weather stripping along the top center portion of the windshield. When I touched the rubber material it is VERY soft, tacky, and left a tar-like residue on my finger. Nothing has dripped or leaked on the vehicle, and it is only occurring along one 10-inch section of the weather stripping. NO sap from trees, no leaking oil from garage. Any ideas?

I'm not sure what would cause the weatherstripping to degrade like that, but you found it. All I can guess would be the windshield was replaced, and some of the adhesive got on that area, and was removed with the wrong solvent, that attacked that section. The only way to fix it would be to replace it.

My first guess would be windshield replacement botched job also. I do recall a thread where someone had birds that were pulling on their weather stripping but this doesn't look like that.
Maybe if you take it to a windshield place they can scrape it down to smooth it out.
