Navigation update

Looking for someone to share (split the cost) of the latest nav update. I could easily pay the $250 for the SW, but if there is a way I can get a copy of the disc that would be great. Thx!

You either purchase the software disc from the dealer, or an online software download key (think MS Office). From what I gather, the installation process is self explanatory depending on which method you choose. I'm actually wondering if the $250 cost is better than using iMaps on my iPhone.

You'll have to be more specific with your car. I believe with NTG4, you can use the same DVD on multiple cars, but after that, it requires a pin code to activate which is tied to your VIN. NTG4 was 2010-2011.

^ +1, most recent nav disc updates are linked to VIN and require an activation code. Not that I'd advise breaking copyright laws, but even if you tried to use a nav disc on multiple vehicles, it will give you an invalid or already in use notice. Trust me, they've long ago figured out how to keep people from re-selling their used nav discs on ebay.

Thanks,
Did you get it new? I think you're supposed to get 3 years of Nav updates for free now, but I don't remember when that started. Ask the dealer and see if you qualify. For NTG4.5-NTG4.7, you can use the same DVD, but you need a pin code to activate. Some say you can just buy the pin code and do the update yourself, otherwise the dealer ends up charging you for 2+ hours to basically just sit there while the DVD loads on your car and at MB rates, that can be $500+. Not sure who actually sells the pin though. Kinda crazy considering that google maps and Waze is free and way better.

I prefer Google Maps over any navigation for the most part. Plus they seem to be pretty accurate on estimated time to destination which helps with rush hour traffic. However, I have not used my OEM navi yet.
