It's that time of year again where we try to clear out some inventory and overstock items and get ready for 2017. That means that we may have some really good deals on parts for your car. The whole site is up to 20% off, but select products up to 40%. I hope you all had a great 2016, and here's to an even better 2017!
Following the many posts here recommending parts from FCP Euro, I bought my first set of oil filters for each MB last Fall. A year later, it's becoming time to initiate the "Lifetime Replacement" process.
Can you folks with lots of experience with FCP explain the procedure, please?
For instance, I kept the oil filters removed last year when I replaced them with the FCP parts (not purchased from FCP). Do I package these parts for return with the proper forms on the FCP site, or do I have to make a second purchase and then return the first set of FCP parts after I remove them?
Sorry to be a dunce on this, but I want to make sure I do this correctly.
Buy a part from FCP. Wear it out to where it needs to be replaced. Buy the exact same part from FCP. Remove the old, install the new part. Send the old part back and get a full refund. Repeat as necessary.
Easy peasy with hard parts, but oil is kind of a PITA.
If you send them back a part that isn't sourced from them, they'll not refund your cash.
rapidoxidation has the process correct. To reiterate, only return them items bought from them, so you bring those non-FCP filters from last year to AutoZone for recycling.
When returning oil, seal it up in bags to prevent spilling. That's a hassle for everyone and may invalidate all the parts on your return, wasting your shipping fees and time.
The return process is easy but since you have multiple cars, some record keeping will help. When you start a return, it will ask you to select the parts you're returning from a list of your old orders. After a few years of doing this, it might get confusing which car received which part, and which old purchases were already returned for credit. The returns system will only let you initiate a return once for each part. That explains why you see a part in your orders but not in the return system.
In 10/2022, FCP made slight changes to the warranty. They now issue store credit instead of cash when the used part is returned (for orders after 11/1/22, orders before then can request cash). They credit you the price you paid for the part you're returning (not the price of the replacement which was honestly unfair to them). Store credit is easy to use; I believe they notify you at check out so you can apply it.
I just did my second oil change on my new-to-me E350 so I'm excited to return this as the first "free oil" with this car. I'm in New England and pass by their CT headquarters, so simply stop in to drop off my returns. With four cars on FCP parts, I save them up for a while to minimize my trips.
