Movin' On

Merry Christmas to all. Moving over to the W213 forum. Was at the dealer for service and I just couldn't help myself.

A nice present to say the least, congrats.

I can't decide if I like the new S-Class-ish dash MB is putting in the new 17 Es. Definitely better than the tacked-on screens on some of the other models. The screen looks bigger, so that's a plus.

Compared to your W212, how do you like the dash layout, screen and interface so far? How's the 2L turbo compared to the 3.5L?

Only have 42 miles on the odometer, but, for my purposes I am impressed with the new engine. Quiet and smooth, it has more torque than the 3.5 so it is responsive. Unless you drive pretty hard (didn't we all at one time or other) the 2L turbo is just fine. Obviously it's a personal thing, but so far no complaints here.

There are multiple ways of doing nearly every function on the command/media interface. NONE of them are knobs and that takes some getting used to. The steering wheel pads work great, but they seem to require a "light" touch. The 12.3" command screen is amazing. Speedo and tach are analog in mine.

There is no CD slot, so buy some USB/flash sticks. I put 1000 songs from my music library on an 8GB drive and had room to spare.

Overall, with very limited driving time, I am very happy with it. For what it's worth I was not unhappy with the E350. Just got the bug, so be forewarned if you go "test drive" one.

The interior shot isn't the best quality, but it gives you the idea just how nice the E300 is. Love the ambient light choices.

Anyway, really enjoying the car. Happy Holidays!

Beautiful car! Congrats!

I've always preferred a turbo engine with smaller displacement VS normally aspirating with a larger displacement. The low end torque is usually amazing with newer turbos. I know some prefer exactly the opposite so it's a personal thing!

Why not have the best of both worlds and have a turbo engine with a larger displacement? Cant wait until the E400 lands in the US.

LOL. It is not. MB doesn't include touch screen technology in it's "most intelligent" definition. I have touch in Ford truck (Sync 3) and it works great. Personal choice of course, but I see no reason not to have it. Most manufacturers do. They can't all be wrong (or consumers either, for that matter.)

"None of them are knobs" comment was a little tongue in cheeky. There is a whole lot of new in the E300, and like all things new it requires effort to get used to and accept the changes. It wasn't intended as a complaint. (The non-touch screen comments above, is a small complaint).

So far my only other "real" complaint is the dynamic ride setting and eco engine stop-start features must be reset each time you start the car, if you don't want defaults, which are ride in comfort mode and engine stop-start to on. Otherwise I love the car and all of it's new designs and technologies. Park pilot is so good it's almost creepy.

In the C class loaners I've been getting the past few years, you have the option to set an "Individual" setting, and I think on the 2017s they even allow you to turn off ECO and set the suspension to Sport mode and save it in this mode. Then when you get in the car, all you have to do is hit up a few times on the dynamic knob and put it in Individual mode. For the few days I've had a loaner, I never once had to deal with the ECO stop/start function, except when I was trying it out to see how much it annoyed me (turns out, it bothers me a lot lol).

Yeah yeah, you have to push one button a few times, but it sure beats going through all the menus each time you get in the car to turn those things off.

I'd buy a new one just for the parking pilot. I can't count the number of times I've been at a hospital or sporting event garage where I would love to hug a wall (door-ding prevention method). I'm not a fan of squeezing between cars, and this feature would help a lot!

Link below for those who haven't seen it in action:

What you say is true, but...

it would be nice for Mercedes to allow the driver to set his/her preferences as the default. Imagine having to set your lights to AUTO each time you drove your car. What if your radio defaulted back to (pick a station you absolutely hate) each time you shut off the car. It would get old quickly.

Anyway, not a deal breaker, just on my wish list.

True, and I agree. I guess I've gotten used to starting in E with ESP on, and letting that be my default. Those are the only settings I change on my car, but I have the dash menu on ESP and have the E/S button at my fingertips, so I can switch them both in half a second if I want. I can see how it would add to the convenience, though. I mean, you paid enough for that car, right? It should be set to how you like it.
