Soon to be W212 owner, quick engine question
Hello All,
I am in the market for a 2011 - 2014 E550 and unfortunately, there are not a lot available for sale in my area. I am coming from a 06 Infiniti M35 after eight years and I am really looking forward to the V8 that the E550 provides. My question is, what is the main difference between the 5.5L V8 non-turbo in the 2011 and the 4.7L V8 TT? I am going to start test driving next weekend, but I love the way the V8 sounds in general and after doing some research, it seems that putting and X pipe on the 2011 or deleting the resonators and putting straight pipes in front of the mufflers on the 2012+ provides a pretty decent sound. Anyways, thanks for your time and happy holidays!

I recently purchased a 2013 E550 sedan. I am really impressed with this car. If it were me I would try to get a CPO, and buy the warranty extension. I looked for a few months, and finally asked the dealer I bought my last car from to find one. Considering that 2014 is the last year they offered the E550 in the USA, and they probably sell 90% plus E350's,ratio to E550's, and E63's. There is a somewhat limited market. Good luck, and happy hunting.

The 4.7L TT is faster and has better gas mileage than the NA 5.5L. There's also more potential for the 4.7L TT if you plan on doing an ECU upgrade and stuff, the gains are much better. I haven't personally driven the 4.7L TT E550 but I do own the old NA 5.5L. It's smooth, it's got plenty of power, and there's basically no engine problems, not even any leaking.

Has anyone driven both the 5.5 and the 4.7? I can't seem to fine anything but 2010 and 2011s in my area (which I am on the way to test drive a 11 right now).
Thanks!
Thanks!

Quite a bit more torque in a 2014 vs 2011. You might read the two links below from Car and Driver........or not. Up to you.
