Road and Wind Noise is intrusive at highway speeds!
I've had a 2014 E350 sport sedan, bought CPO, for a couple of months now. When i drive it at highway speeds, i notice quite a bit of road and wind noise! The road noise seems to vary with road surfaces, indicating it is coming from the tires, but even on smooth tarmac, it is noticeable. I have Continental Pro-Contacts on the car.
The wind noise seems to be coming from the back. The front seems pretty quiet, but I have to actually turn up the radio to try to drown out the noise from the back at 70-75MPH.
Is this normal? Any ideas on how to reduce the noise?
Thanks.
G

I get wind noise near my left ear by my side window on days with heavy cross wind. Doors seem tight & aligned so no idea

Change your door seals. Recently did that on a new S-Class.. the car is quiet now. The rubber didn't show any damage yet didn't insulate.

In case people are following this thread, sadly my trip yesterday got cancelled. Tomorrow though - I'll have DB measurements and will report back. Sorry for the wait.

I recently posted here about how much I loved my new Sumitomo tires, they are unbelievably quiet compared to the OEM Pirellis that were on it before. The difference was HUGE and they were less than half the price of the usual Contis / Pirellis / Michelins. If the road noise is that much of an issue, at $500 a set of tires maybe it's worth a shot.

My guess is most of us have the same problem. Before I replaced the door weatherstrip, which is expensive, I picked up some foam weatherstrip at the local home supply and worked it in behind the rubber weatherstrip where I thought the noise was coming from. I also made sure the rubber strip at the top of the door that seals against the drip rail was sealing properly when the door was closed. This all helped, but there was still what sounded like wind noice when I drove the car. I also noticed it more when another car was next to me.
Last weekend I pried off the B pillar interior trim where the seat belt is and found there to be no insulation behind it. Since this area is right at ear level I decided to add some insulation. I had some peal and stick "boom mat" type product left over from a previous project so I used this. I haven't had an opportunity to drive on the highway yet, but around town it seemed to be quieter. This is a very easy project and would recommend those with noice issues to give it a try.

Good idea putting insulation there, I didn't think of that yet its the closes interior part to the ear.

I have also recently experienced this. I purchased my car in May, but the sound only started to appear this month since the weather got a lot colder. I'm thinking the cold has caused the door weather stripping to contract. Crosswind and cars in adjacent lane contribute to the condition. Its doesn't sound so much like wooshing wind, but it gives the sense that the door is slightly ajar, but it is tightly closed of course.
I'll try to support the weather stripping with additional insulation.

So glad I came across this thread.
For those of you that got the door seals replaced (either DIY or by the dealer)---could you inform me of which part numbers were required and what the cost was?

My black car had a noise coming from RR door. I took a look at the seals and seems at some point they got bend out of shape. I bend the seal back and noise is gone.
