Lane warning when turning
So I've had my car - a 2014 E350 - for three months now, and I love it (moved up from a 2011 BMW 328i). But one thing is really annoying me, and I wonder if maybe it's just a setting that needs to be tweaked:
When I'm turning left in a dual turning lane in the outside lane, I always get a lane-deviation beep and a flash of the red triangle in my mirror. obviously this is because there is a car in the left turning lane next to me as we both make the turn, and because my signal is on, it thinks I want to merge into that lane. but since dual turning lanes are so common, I would have thought that MB would have accounted for this.
so, is there any way to "teach" my car that when I'm in the outside lane of a dual turning lane that I'm turning with traffic and not trying to merge into an occupied lane?

Not that I know of. Our '14 E350 does exactly what you've described ...I've just come to ignore it as the warning works well in every other situation except double-turn lanes.

Unfortunately, that's against my nature - I always signal my turns. (and it drives me crazy when others don't). Probably from my days as a BMW driver when I went out of my way not to be "that guy."

If you are already on a turning lane, you don't really need to signal, it is sort of repetitive. On the other hand, if you are in the wrong lane and you want to go straight on the turning lane, then you should signal.

It's one of the annoying features on the car. According to my service advisor there is no secret way to disable some of this either -it's either all on or all off and no learning
I really hate the loud beep when a car is in your blind spot but you put your turn signal on early to be polite to the next guy

We are up to our necks in dual turning lanes here. 90 pct of the outside or far right turning lanes are also go straight lanes, i.e. you have a choice to turn or go straight. 50% of the time there is no one facing you to see your turn signal. But 100% of the time there is someone behind you who would really like to know if you are turning or going straight. If you are going straight and I am as well, I'll expect you to accelerate. If you are going to turn left and I see your turn signal, I'll know you are not accelerating so I will coast behind you until you turn. Moral of the story? Using your turn signal before you are going turn helps the car behind you. I have to laugh at people who enter a left turn lane, get to the end of it and then turn on their signal. Who cares at that point? We can see what you're doing. If are going to turn, and step on your brake before you put on your turn signal, you might as well not bother....
