2017 E300 Loaner

I am loving my 2017 E300 loaner!!! Love the new setup and electronics. This car is fast!!! Dealer might need to pry it out of my hands.

I had that same model for a 4 day loaner. I didn't like it. It had a 9 speed tranny and it was shifting all the time. sometimes it would down shift 3 gears in the middle of a turn..... but the biggest offending point was the lack of low end torque, or at least until the turbo kicked in, at which point the tires started to spin only to be retarded back by the traction control. then I'd try to come of the gas pedal....... then the car would up shift about 2 gears.... then it would lose forward momentum because the lower RPM wasn't spooling the turbo anymore....... then, I'd get peeved at the slow progress and start the whole process again.......
Not very luxury car like.

I took one for a test drive yesterday and I found the shifts to be all over the place. It was fine under steady acceleration, but not when you lift off the throttle even for a moment. Salesman said it was 'learning'. I guess we're supposed to have faith.

It's all subjective
i had one as a loaner and thought it to be a buzzy clattery mess. Yes it was pretty quick when spooled up but otherwise I was trying to figure out what cost cut determined the engine was a good candidate on what I still consider to be a luxury sedan. Not saying it has to be a grandpa car but would it have killed them to further refine the V6 as base engine? The interior was quite nice and I was glad to see the nav screen integrated instead of looking like a tablet stuck to the dash.
My opinion was I was quite happy to get my "old" 2011 back. Solidified my wanting to hang on to it.

Only if it were a 300+ hp V6, I'd be all over the 2017 E-Class! 241 hp V4 for this price will not win me over.

Do a Google search for 2025 CAFE standards, and you will discover why 4 cylinder engines will become like V8's are today if were lucky!

I hear you about the CAFE standards. But an Inline/straight six with about 2400 to 2500 cc and a really small turbo or a electric boost motor/battery would have done the job. (Not to the hybridization level of a Prius but a small liThium battery and a motor would have flattened out the torque curve without adding too much weight). An old BMW 525i comes to mind.......

I believe it's just a I4, not V4. Yeah the E300 only has 241hp vs the 302 in the 2012-2016 E350's. His car probably needs a transmission reset or switch it into sport mode and it may be more responsive. Anyway, if Trump gets rid of the new CAFE standards, maybe their new I6 will appear in a few years.

Do you mind me asking why your car was in the shop that long? Something electrical?

LOL. The car was repaired in 24 hours. I just never took the loaner back and they never called for it either. I am guessing they are trying to get me to upgrade to the 2017 in a very covert manner.

Brilliant.

I wonder if I can manage the same "trade" for an SLS for several months now that Spring is here.

LOL

The fine print says you have to return it within 24 hours of the work being done. I never tried to keep a loaner any longer but I doubt they'd really sweat it for a few days but 2 weeks HA HA.

So did they call you within 24 hours to say the car was repaired and you waited 2 weeks or it's the other way around?
