How to replace backup lights?

Hi guys, I have a pre-facelift halogen headlight E350. My driver side backup light just went out, so I got a pair of LEDs to replace both lights.

I managed to peel back the trunk liner only to find out that I still don't have access to the bulbs. Seems like the whole light assembly needs to come out. I am met with this fastener here with a plastic retainer of some sort. I tried unscrewing the nut, but it won't budge.

Can someone please shed some on light on how I can replace the backup lights please? Thank you!
