Updating software
Does Mercedes do software updates for their cars to improve performance or fix bugs in successive versions?
I have a 2014 e550 and was curious if any of the new 2017 features might be installed & backward compatible.

They will do engine, transmission and other computer software upgrades if you report issues with it. (navigation map software updates are not included except for certain model years).
I've had the ECU and TCU as well as command software upgrades done on my car 3 or 4 times under warranty to fix various bugs.

Adding features from new models would likely involve new hardware and some programming. Doing that with the same model range is one thing as most of the wiring is consistent. But not with a new model.
But if you were thinking of the air freshener, just go aftermarket.

I also have a 2014 E550 Sedan.
I have never update the software until my upgrades.
Huge difference after ECU, TCU update. There are also SAM updates.
Fuel Pump module update...etc.
You will have to check with MB, Make sure they update all.
