Fleece filter for M278 that comes from the factory with 278-180-00-09
So the M278 V8 twin-turbo engine has a so-called "Mixed Oil Filter Installation", meaning it can come from the factory with either the 278-180-00-09 or 276-180-00-09 filter. As far as I know, they are not interchangeable. Odd, but OK.
My question is, with all the talk about fleece-type filters being superior, why can't I find 278-180-00-09 made with the white fleece material? All the 278-180-00-09 filters I've seen are made with the traditional paper-based material. Of course, the engine in my car came with this type filter, and I'm curious whether the lack of fleece filter material will impact engine performance (including longevity). Interestingly, the 276-180-00-09 filters are mostly made with the fleece material.
